White Friday

Reading: Still reading Accelerando, about halfway through. This weekend, though, while visiting Janaki, I picked up and read Burning Chrome, making me want to go back and read through the godfathers of cyberpunk. That book was neat with several stories that fed right into the science fiction Sorcerer setting.

Planning: Wrasslin' and we make ( Read more... )

The Friday night BW guys' BW game came to a kind of satisfying chapter pause, so we decided to give the sci-fi Sorcerer a shot.

Reading: Between books again. Do I reread my James Tiptree, Jr. stuff and read the stuff of hers I've not yet read? Been considering that since a haunting song from Ohio Valley Filk Festival inspired by her story "A Momentary Taste of Being". Press on with Arthur C. Clarke's Fountains of Paradise? Catch up on my fantasy? Grab another book off the 20 in 20 sf lists? Grab an rpg off the shelf? Decisions, decisions.

Planning: Finish eating and head over to crash-mccormick's place for working on the larp Presque Vue, which has 17 out of 20 slots filled. Oh my. And Jamais Vue has all 24 slots filled, but that's solid, i.e., we've got it all written.

Wearing: Contata t-shirt and blue jeans. Gonna put on boots.

Writing: Email to ambug666 and the list of kibbitzers for Lullaby of Broadway part 2, as we debate how to do the Great Merge of shows and characters for next year's larp.

Let me know if / when you've got a version of 1st Quest you want more comments on.

Is there a link to this 20 in 20 sf list?

Yep.

There's Cheryl Morgan's post with the lists. She was the moderator.

There's someone's post on it here.

There's my post, a lot messier than Cheryl's, as it's a transcription of my notes.

I'm fairly sure Graham Sleight had something as well. Maybe here.

Also, if you want current stuff, here are my messy notes on the panel Looking Ahead -- What to Read and Watch Before You Nominate for the 2009 Hugos.

Also, to see what's won acclaim from fans and authors, google for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and Mythopoeic Awards, and for art, the Chelsea Awards, I think. I remember, years ago, being stunned to learn that Frank Herbert's Dune, which had impressed me (I was in 10th grade) had merely tied with a much slimmer novel by Roger Zelazny. Then, I read that novel and understood. It was This Immortal, which was also published as And Call me Conrad. I ought to reread it.

Tiptree's relation to the sf awards was a bit more, ah, convoluted, for the obvious (if you've got the basic background) reasons.

Reading: Implied Spaces, Water Jon WIlliams…and speaking of WJW, if you're going to read some cyberpunk, make sure that his Voice of the Whirlwind is on your list.

Planning: Shadows of Misthaven, a possible 4e campaign.

Wearing: Work clothes - button-down shirt and black dockers. Also, cat hair.

Writing: Only in LJ at the moment.
