Oct 24, 2008 09:20

Hit Yoga three or four days this week to good effect and it is paying off. Certain poses still elude me but others are showing millimeters of progress.

Reading: Accelerando by Charles Stross is really fantastic. I am thoroughly hooked.

Planning: A nice relaxed weekend with Janaki.

Wearing: A flannel shirt with Janaki's old, ratty Violent ( Read more... )

Two sessions in so far with lots of investigation/setting exploration (also getting the characters to know each other a bit).

The action-oriented investigation and/or ghost hunting should begin this weekend.

Reading: I was reading Hell House by Richard Matheson and I was liking it alot, but I got sidetracked by The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Which is also fun.

Planning: To finish up a deadline tonight or tomorrow morning in time to jump to another project right away.

Wearing: Just a thick bathrobe at the moment. Though I've been spending most of my days layered with a couple sweaters and a scarf lately. Not dealing with the cold well!

Arting: At the moment, some stuff for Brennan and some stuff for Fred. Coloring coloring coloring...Something else on the horizon. Possibly something really good.

Yay Fred! Yay Brennan! Yay something really good!

I think after my sci-fi reading marathon, Gaiman's newest might be just the palate cleanser.

Reading: Five Elements & Ten Stems - a book on traditional chinese medicine theory, also, a funky and slightly disjointed translation of the Tao Te Jing.

Planning: How I'm going to survive out the next 6 days with a hardcore anatomy class this weekend, people out of the office, and office politics drama. On little sleep.

Wearing: T shirt + sweats

Writing: Organizing notes from class, a Burning Wheel scenario, contemplating a game based on the premise of the Megaman Zero series (humans vs. robots, with sympathizers, spies, integrationists, separatists, and a fuckload of political complexities that you don't expect in a kid's videogame).

Sleep, food and BW judd_sonofbert October 24 2008, 15:59:44 UTC
Sleep and food color everything; I notice my ability to deal with everyday shit goes out the window when either of them are out of kilter.

What is the BW scenario aboot?

The City of a Thousand Lights- led by a hedonistic and selfish Emir who just sent his soldiers to go take his brother's lands... A week later? An army of orcs on a crusade show up. The Emir decides he doesn't have enough forces to man the outer walls, and so, withdraws them all to the inner keep.

You? You're left outside, to rally the civilians as best as you can.

I was thinking of fun pre-gen characters- the Emir's sister, with the belief, "I'll protect the city my brother has failed to", a fallen knight, a crime lord, an old laborer ("The old guy you don't fuck with") and an as yet unformed religious type.

Basically, each character will have some kind of leadership ability/connections, and playing with the idea of them cocurrently or cooperatively trying to save the city sounds fun.

Also- inspired by your post about using maps to set up specific challenges.

Reading: complete stories & poems of Edgar Allan Poe. I intend to read it cover to cover.

Planning: A gaming session next week. Might actually happen.

Wearing: slacks, long-sleeved undershirt, with a short-sleeved buttoned shirt over that, and a waistcoat, and a US Navy peacoat. And a fedora.

Writing: a text for the Showdown Engine (a Spaghetti Western roleplaying system) for the guy doing that Grindhouse game challenge. And also designing a game for that challenge inspired by the movie Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter.
