Deadly immunity

Jun 16, 2005 13:05

When a study revealed that mercury in childhood vaccines may have caused autism in thousands of kids, the government rushed to conceal the data -- and to prevent parents from suing drug companies for their role in the epidemic.

heeeeeeeeeeee

we don't currently vaccinate our daughter. I know it's a BIG controversy.

I am for delayed/select and don't mind if others don't. She won't get a shot until she is 2 - IF I decide to vax. I made a mistake(personal issue) and she got 2 so far - I wish she never got them that young. :(

Someone posted this in the damnportlanders community as well.

This is still such a new issue to me, it's hard to take it all in. I try to avoid mass hysteria but am inherently skeptical about government data.

Being a parent is stressful. :(

What's funny - I researched this(vax) more than BF! 0_o. weird.

Ugh, that's sickening.

Makes me feel shitty Ciara's gotten the 7 shots she has so far.

So, are there still shots now that contain thimerosal that babies are getting. I kept reading up until 2003...

I'm glad I wasn't born after 1989. Hahaha. Scary stuff.

Flu shots contain thimerosal and are recommended for babies. There are still other vax doses out there with the mercury - you can check the package insert, though, at your peds. They aren't selling them anymore, but they didn't *poof* disappear, and they weren't recalled IIRC... so you have to read the insert to make sure it's one of the clean doses. If I ever vax again for some reason, I will get a copy of the insert, and the serial number/batch number/whatever from the actual dose.

We don't vax and I'm so glad. It took me a long time to convince my husband, but we're delaying until age 2, then we're going to have our son tested for immunity so he receives only the necessary vaccinations. Our pediatrician offers thimerosal-free vaccines, but I've done so much research and heard about other dangers, I figure it's better to wait in our situation.
The American governement pisses me off. Greed is a scary thing.

How do you test for immunity? That's a great idea!

They draw blood and check the "titers" - the measure of the level of antibodies to that particular disease. The number tells you whether you're immune, resistant (borderline), or not immune.

I'm pretty sure any doctor can do a blood test to see if the correct antibodies are present.
