One lazy Sunday afternoon, I was having a break from all the cooking that I usually do. There are only few customers during this time anyways. I was seated in the corner of the diner, a book in one hand and a cup of tea on the other there’s no table? I was about to the turn the page of the book that I was reading what happened to the cup? when I heard the bell hanging on the door rang. My head automatically turned in that direction and a very breathtaking sight entered.
A guy, a bit short in height with wavy black hair walked in a few steps ahead of a pretty girl-----wait----that’s a boy----nah----a girl. Yap, that’s definitely a girl, with coppered locks following behind him. They sat on the table in front of me, giving me lotsa privileges to observe. ‘Bwahaha! Oh how I love this seat!’
They ordered a cup of coffee and a sandwich for the guy and a strawberry cake and a cup of tea for the pretty girl.
They came back here exactly a week after. Sat on the same table and ordered the same food.
The following weeks, they’ve become one of my regular customers. And I’ve found out that the pretty girl was actually a guy! ‘Huh! It’s unfair! He’s prettier than me!’
You might say that there’s nothing interesting with those two aside from their good looks. You might think that it’s boring having to watch those two entered the vicinity, sat on their place and placed the same order over and over again every time they came here. They didn’t even bother to talk to each other. They just sat there; consume their orders while reading their own books. So what’s so interesting about them?
If you will look closely, you’ll see why.
Today is going to be another interesting day. As I was once again having my break, I peeked at the time on my wristwatch and as if on cue, I heard the sound of the bell. My favorite subjects entered and like most of the time, the short guy walked two steps ahead of the girly guy and they sat at their usual table.
As expected, they ordered the usual food, a sandwich and a cup of coffee for the short guy and a cup of tea and a strawberry cake for the girly guy. As the food were served, the girly guy would automatically put two teaspoonful of sugar in the coffee, stir it then push it in front of the short guy. The short guy would smile, would mumble small thanks and in return, would remove the strawberry on top of the strawberry cake and will stuff it in his mouth. The girly guy would smile brightly at him and mouthed a simple thanks and----I dunno----if this is true, he mouthed ‘I love you’. I’m not really sure, though.
Silence would soon engulf the two as they ate. They would do their routine, read their own books quietly. Stealing glances at each other at the turn of every page. Subtle touches of fingers when picking up their cups on the table.
These little things, only I can see, and I won’t tell you coz you don’t seem interested anyways.
This is gonna be my little secret. And I’m not telling you that when they’re out that door, they’ll walk close to each other.
Arms brushing lightly against one another.
And soon, fingers intertwined….
No, I’m not gonna tell you, that for me, they’re such an odd couple. But I envy the love they have for each other. No need for words, they can convey their feelings with gestures and actions.
