Ah yes, good point. And now the Constitution has become the go-to symbol for the Right. "I believe in the Constitution," is the rallying call. Well, no, you believe in your preferential interpretation of the Constitution.
I like the Constitution, too. Codifying our civil rights was a really great idea the Founders had. I'm not willing, though, to say that what worked for people living in the 18th century will automatically work for us, though.

Sure, now it's associated with conservatives because conservatives question the patriotism of anyone who is not like them!
