i watched Rome - the hbo series last night.
.
i just happened to have just read a book on Augustus (the man who was known as Octavian). the book (click here to go to the book at amazon.com) was pretty good but ultimately i did not find Augustus as interesting as Julius.

I hear you. I'm a huge fan of Tudor England and I'm bracing myself for the HBO series- I can't NOT watch it, but it's going to kill me.

And as regards the accents? They're all BBC actors. Although yes- I'd really rather have the UK accents indicate Celts.

lol.. your vivid imagination would rule the world..

which season?.. 1 or 2?

I love the serie, because as you, I'm very familiarized with the story.. and yes, indeed why the british accent???... but you have to understand that finding actors speaking Latin, would be kinda hard.. right?...

at the end is a super mega production between BBC and HBO (same producers of the sopranos and the so pretentious six feet under, which I ended up liking the first 3 seasons .. then was as his title to me) ... lots of sex, drama and the so OBVIOUS CLICHES that cant failed to be inside any succesful serie...

I think they should put a disclaimer saying that is based on real events BUT not an exact retranscription of the facts...

without Agrippa the roman history will be another thing... I guess at the end they will make a "surprising" turn .. lol ..

not all the people like history you know? .. heh.

still is a tv show.. that needs to make audience.. but at least entertain us ..

;)
