That's exactly how we got into this situation. Back in 2000 there is no doubt that the race was so close because neither candidate brought enough to the table, and it thus became a bigger issue of voting against the more unpleasant one. Likewise this year will be more of the same. Obama throws around a lot of words that mean nothing and John McCain can be best summarized with whitehouse.org's take on him, "I completely disagree with what I just said. Unless of course, you liked it."
And it seems with each election year, the temperamental details that people obsess over grow more and more absurd.
