Title: Feel You Whisper Across the Sea

Author: Lady Taevyn

Rating: PG

Summary: An interview for a magazine reveals some truths to Jensen and Jared that, really, they knew all along.

Disclaimer: Jensen and Jared belong to themselves. I’m not claiming to know what their real sexual preference is. Also not making any profit off of this. So please to not be suing.

A/N: 1700 words of pure schmoopy goodness. Title and cut text taken from ‘Lucky’ by Jason Mraz featuring Colbie Calliat.

It’s late afternoon when the knock comes at the front door. Jensen and Jared had been doing nothing all day, barely managing to make it out of their pajamas (a run to the grocery had forced them too). The dogs are lying in a pile between the coffee table and big screen. It’s the perfect counter to the pile Jensen and Jared make on the sofa. Jensen groans at the interruption poking Jared (technically he’s on the top of the pile so he should get up anyways) just as the doorbell rings.

“Hang on a second!” Jared yells trying to make his way out of the tangled blanket. Then more quietly to Jensen he asks, “You invited people over?” Jensen shakes his head sitting up, pushing his glasses back up to the bridge of his nose. The dogs have finally realized that something is going on in another part of the house and move to investigate. Jensen stands to follow.

“… Out magazine, we’re here to do that article and take a couple pictures.” Jensen hears the tail end of the introductions and then he remembers. They’d told their families shortly after getting together, both were amazingly supportive, but had basically been told by the higher-ups at The CW to keep it hushed if they wanted to finish out Season 5 of Supernatural. But now the show is done and their Summer movies both in the can; they figured now is as good a time as any to tell the world. They didn’t want to end up as ‘Perez-fodder’ so they’ve been super discreet Jensen even going so far as to take Danneel to his movie premier. That’s not to say he didn’t spend almost the whole time texting Jared, but no one needs to know that. Jensen is in the entryway now and can’t put off meeting these people any longer, so he bucks up and sticks his hand out.

“Jensen Ackles, it’s great to meet you. We don’t follow your magazine religiously or anything, but it’s classy, and we wanted to do this right.” Jensen says in a rush knowing his cheeks are pinking a little.

The woman takes his hand not at all daunted by his rambling or his ‘star’ status. “My name’s Carrie and the man with the lens is Alex. Don’t worry about not reading us; we understand that Hollywood can be a tough town for people who are out. Can I ask what prompted your decision to do the article? You’re not planning on getting out of acting, with your talent and looks you both have huge careers ahead of you.” Carrie finishes moving around the dogs to follow Jared into the living room. Jensen falls back with Alex to ask about his camera and lets Jared field the first of what Jensen is sure will be many questions. Jensen wracks his brain for a quick second taking a mental picture of the living room praying that it doesn’t look a complete mess. Carrie and Alex take a minute to confer amongst themselves and Jared debates putting the dogs in the bedroom. Alex speaks up before he gets too far.

“I was hoping to maybe get a couple shots of you two with the dogs maybe in the back yard. The lighting is just about perfect right now to get some really great pictures.” Jared and Jensen share a quick look with scrunched noses and raised eyebrows and Carrie is making mental notes of all of this silent communication. It’ll be the perfect intro for the article.

“Sure,” Jared answers. “Can we go as is, or should we change?” He’s not sure if they’re expected to be in coordinating colors or not.

“You’re fine as you are. We may get you to change for the posed shots though.” Carrie says as they head to the back yard. They spend about twenty minutes tossing tennis balls and Frisbees to Harley and Sadie who are soaking up the attention like they’re starving for it. “If you wanted to change you can, or you can stay in what you’re in, doesn’t matter to me. I do want to talk to you individually for just a few minutes. Then we’ll sit down and talk together, Alex will get some candid shots, then the posed shots and we’ll be out of your hair.” Carrie says when they get back into the house and are standing in the kitchen after having gotten water for the dogs and themselves. Jensen excuses himself to change while Carrie talks to Jared. He’s not nervous, not really. He’s more excited that they are finally doing this, not hiding any more. He knows they are running a risk, as Carrie said, Hollywood can be brutal. But they didn’t think it was fair to themselves or their fans to not be 100% honest. When he comes out of the bedroom Jensen feels a momentary flare of *something*, in his gut, because Carrie has her hand on Jared’s thigh and Jared is laughing. Jensen walks over to the sofa and settles his hip against the headrest draping an arm around Jared’s chest. He knows it’s ridiculous and petty but he can’t help it. Carrie gets the message moving her hand away from Jared sending Jensen a chagrined smile. She knows what they have, knows she couldn’t come between it; won’t even bother to try. Jared stands flashing a huge grin at Jensen pressing a big, sloppy, noisy kiss to his forehead before moving in the direction of the bedroom.

“Sorry about that. I didn’t mean anything…” Jensen cuts off rolling his eyes and wiping Jared’s spit off his face.

“It’s fine Jensen. You don’t have to explain yourself. I was probably a little out of line.” Carrie makes her apologies then shakes the incident off. “So I noticed you two practically hold complete conversations without saying a word. Was it always like that? ‘Because I’ve read that you hit it off right away as friends.” She’s a down to business type, Jensen can respect that.

“I think us clicking right away helped. But being the only ‘leads’ on a pretty intense show working 14 or more hours a day had a lot to do with it. You know?” Jensen takes note of the rings on her left hand, motions toward it, “it’s like being married. After a while it’s like you can have both sides of any conversation or argument by yourself. ‘Cause you know what the other person is going to say.” Jensen sees the gleam in Carrie’s eye at the mention of marriage. Whether she’s thinking of her own or not; he’s not sure.

“Speaking of marriage, even though it’s only legal in a few states, are you two considering it?” Carrie isn’t too proud to angle for the scoop. These are two of Hollywood’s hot up-and-comers, she’s certain she’s not the only one who wants to know.

Jensen makes a big show of looking around conspiratorially making sure Jared is still occupied elsewhere. When he’s sure they’re alone he pulls the box out of his pocket. “That’s part of the reason I wanted to do this interview. I wanted the world to know that it’s ok to love whoever. And that Jared and me are gonna last.” He places the ring box on the coffee table and fidgets with the hem of his shirt for a minute. When he focuses back on Carrie she’s pulled Alex over and he’s taking pictures of the ring. He hadn’t heard her call for him so he tilts his head and makes a point of looking at her ring finger then at Alex. She just nods and smiles at him, she gets it. Jensen quickly grabs the box off the table just as Jared comes bumbling out of the bedroom shaking his hair out of his eyes.

“I can totally get away with wearing pink, right?” He asks the room in general. Jensen had put on a black long sleeved button-up knowing Jared would pick pink.

“Yes Jay, you’ve always been able to pull off pink. No it won’t look tacky in a ‘coming out’ magazine. Yes your hair looks fine. Now, get over here and show Carrie how madly in love with me you are.” Jensen winks and rolls his eyes to take any sting out of his words. Now that both ‘parents’ are in the same room Harley and Sadie join them and Jared can’t resist getting down on the floor and rolling around with them. Jensen shakes his head; Alex is snapping pictures left and right. Jared gives up after a minute or so and leaves the puppies to play amongst themselves. Carrie has moved off the sofa allowing Jensen and Jared to get comfy. There’s a tension between them that crackles and Carrie smiles. She knows more then one secret in this household.

“If you two are comfortable Alex is going to take a few shots of you just relaxing?” They nod and Alex moves around them. Soon they forget he’s there and Jared starts nuzzling into Jensen’s neck. Jensen blushes and moves his hand to his pocket. Jared sees the action and mirrors it. Carrie just smiles and stands back. When they turn to face each other on the couch both holding matching boxes out to the other there is a moment of awkward silence. Then they are both speaking at the same time.

“Did you plan this?” And “How did you keep it secret?” And “Are you sure?” Overlapping each other. They exchange boxes and pull out identical silver bands. Both automatically look on the inside of the bands, neither surprised to see ‘J2’ engraved with hearts on either side.

The rest of the interview goes quickly; they discuss their (hopeful) future careers and plans for a small wedding with just family and a few friends in attendance. Carrie and Alex leave with reassurances that they’ll get a preview copy of the issue their article will appear in, and an extracted promise to call her for an exclusive when they decide to adopt. When, not if. It’s a foregone conclusion. Just one more thing they knew without having to speak a word out loud about.
