Indecision '08 - VP Edition

Oct 03, 2008 05:05

Everyone knows that I do not like Sarah Palin, and to be honest - those people who give her the time of day are hardly going to have their minds changed by an elitist liberal European like myself. After watching the ups and downs of the economic "crisis" and the candidates responses to them I went from Obama-leaning to outright Obama supporter ( Read more... )

Thank you for the tacklehug. It's nice to know that there are people who are watching, and cringing along with me.

Even as someone who had to deal with American Debate for a few years*, the Presidential/VP debates make me very frustrated. Like, stabby. Palin took my debatepain! to a new level tonight, though. I was literally shouting "MECHANISM! CAUSATION!" at the screen.

Please, please remember that there are Americans who are not raging idiots. :)

*I miss British Parli. I miss it like whoa. Let's put it this way, my first debate in America I was shamed BY A TEAMMATE for not being a simpering kiss-up. I'm totally serious.

At least you have a vote on these things. It must make it slightly less frustrating. We're over on this side of the pond feeling the reverberations of everything and we can't do a thing to change it!

There is a weird kind of simpering kiss-up technique you have. I'm not a huge fan, because it seems kinda fake. That said, it was obvious that Biden had been told not to go for the jugular.

Bring on October 7th!

OK, now I'm just laughing my arse off at the idea of John "God $*%! the Queen" Stewart in an American debate...

Was anyone else rather unnerved by the little butt-wiggle-thing accompanying the "drill, baby, drill!" chant?

And yes, my first thought was also, "how do you fix something if you don't know what made it break in the first place?" Or rather, with my medical hat on, "you're just treating the symptoms, not the disease! It's going to come back even worse!"

As for the gay marriage question, I was going, "but... hang on... didn't the moderator start the question with 'as they do in Alaska'? And... isn't that *your* state?" *facepalm*

In conclusion, Sarah Palin gives me a headache. And I am not at all surprised that you have a crush on Joe Biden, J.

I was unnerved by every single moment that woman spoke. I was also confused how they brought both their families on at the end. Mostly I was thinking "Isn't it 10 o'clock Eastern time? Shouldn't those kids be in bed?! They have school in the morning!"

I don't want to sound horrible about Alaskans, but they really do not have it as bad as mainland Americans. They get dividend checks as compensation just because they live in an oil producing state. I can't verify this, but I'm fairly sure that there's a lower level of poverty in Alaska compared to states in mainland USA. Also, every time she talked about "I know how hard it is, stretching a cheque, feeding your family blah blah blah", I just kept shouting at the screen "Then don't have FIVE children! Close your damned legs!".

I'm a horrible person.

And what can I say? Good debaters turn me on. And last night, Biden was on fire.

I can't say I'm joining you on the Biden crush thing, but I didn't watch the debate. Is he more attractive when he's debating? Cos that's how I felt about Blair- spend the whole week being cross and then I'd watch PMQ and be all, "He's so clever! he's so wonderful! He's actually rather yummy!"

Yes. I'm aware how shameful a crush on Tony Blair is. Even I can't justify that one!

No, you hit it right on the nose! Obama and Biden make me feel like Blair made me feel back in '97. All hopeful and happy and yay and things can only get better. We need that in Britain, and Cameron isn't doing it.

And I understand the crush on Blair. I think I even agree with you, he's a bit of a dish. He's the kind of guy you go into an argument with, and once he's finished talking you totally forget that you were mad in the first place.

When it comes to political crushes, I have my own problems... (points to icon)

Yes, yes you do. I'm not sure sharing a crush on Blair with you makes me feel any better ...!
