I'm glad that it's been such a good thing for you though! Especially making graphics/icons, I definitely know the difference between the impact of icon'ing and fic writing/rp'ing in fandom. It's like two completely different sides of the spectrum, at least to me it is??

yeah, it's very different for me too. the biggest difference being that I feel like I can make some progress at iconing and do something decent, while my fic was never any good at all, I didn't feel like I was getting any better either, I don't know why, I tried but it's just so hard :p and the cool thing about iconing is that it's such a social activity. So many awesome comms and activities (ok, less now than a few years ago, but still). I always had very limited possibilities for fic communities anyway because most of my fandoms and ships at the time were very obscure, and I feel like in fics the subject has a much bigger role than on icons, where the execution is the focus (for me at least).
I'm also always at fandomsecrets lolLOL I knew someone on my flist must visit that place! :> I'm just a lurker though, mostly because I usually can't think of

I totally agree with you here, the subject of the icon is less the focus than the look of the icon, which is superficial in a way, but it doesn't feel that way for some reason?? Either way I feel you on how fics never improving lmao, mine didn't really either, I just moved on to RP and said a good-bye to fic writing. I might go back to it someday, but I doubt it lol.
If F!S dies I will be forever sad, but I'll still have ONTD, but it's not the same lol. It's weird that they moved to dreamwidth though?? Also I used to be a lurker, but I participate a little here and there now.
