Well, it started with Doctor Who, and Steven Moffat. He's the writer who, following the submission of a script a year for each of the four new seasons to date, all of them quite well received, is taking over executive producer and show-runner duties from Russell T. This pretty well exactly describes my reactions to the series. I liked Jeff a lot, so having him vanish in Season 4 made me sad. Otherwise, though, I struggled a bit at the beginning to connect with the characters, and found myself enjoying it more because of the formal skill with which it puts together its comedic scenes than out of any sense of human connection to these people.

The weird thing is that I feel very much the opposite about Dr Who. I'm embarrassed to admit the recent series fairly frequently makes me tear up -- I think it's something about the current of nostalgia and grief for lost things that is an ongoing theme, which I find personally touching and which also strikes a chord because I spend so much of my time studying a culture more than two millennia gone.

But yeah, looking at Blink, you can totally see the Moffat skills fitting together. Assuming that you're not busy hiding behind the sofa.
