Hello! I am just posting to introduce my six month old Jack Russell Terrier, John Gonzo (aka:Johnny), named after Johnny Depp, and the great, writer/journalist, Hunter S. Thompson.
Emma competes in AKC Rally Obedience. Last year, she was the #11 PRT in the AKC, despite several months off to stabilize her seizure meds. She's incredible at it, and loves it. She cannot do agility, flyball, or disc dog, because of the impact on her joints. She has some health issues. Rally's only has an under 15" dog jumping 8", which is fine.
Wow! That is impressive. I heard that the AKC judges really tough on competitions, and for her to be #11 Parson Russell Terrier in the AKC is awesome! I am glad that although she has health problems, they don't hold her back significantly. Having Cerebral Palsy myself I know how it is to have limitations physically and I am glad to see she is succeeding in rally.
She has fairly severe issues, and I'm probably going to retire her, this year. She's utterly fabulous, though, and I really wish I'd started her earlier. She didn't see her first dog show til her 4th birthday. I would have really liked to have gotten a tracking title on her, because she's such a natural at tracking, but her allergies have gotten much worse. I had her allergy tested, and she's allergic to ragweed, and 2 kinds of grass. No more tracking:( She's still a great demo dog, though. She's the "friendly dog" on CGC tests, and she's the neutral dog we often use for reactive dogs. She is a recovered reactive dog, herself.
Never, EVER let anybody tell you that your dog can't, because he's a terrier.
Yeah, terriers do often get bad reputations just because of the stereotype that they are overactive/aggressive...etc. And I do admit that they can be more difficult to train and stubborn than many other breeds, but with proper training they can do just about anything. Does your dog wheeze and cough when her allergies are acting up? At the start of the summer Johnny wheezed and coughed quite a bit, and I asked my vet about it. He just said that it was probably a puppy thing and that he would grow out of it, but it still has not completely subsided. I am wondering if he could have allergies or even asthma? Do you think he should be tested?
Thank you! He seems to know he is adorable, because when he wants something he "sits pretty", stares at you, and wont go out of that position until you give him a bit of cheese. He is amusing.
