A phrase (well, word) I truly despise.

"Whatever."

I fucking hate it.

If you follow it up with a bit of an explanation or something that puts it into context, sure... not so bad.

But when you say, "Oh, whatever," and leave it at that.

Yeah.

I fucking hate it.

I find I use "Whatever" when I feel like my full answer will either be unappreciated/ignored or it's not really worth the full explanation. The answer says more about the question & the asker than anything else, I guess.

Not sure if that would apply to everybody. If I were to fully explain my answer it would probably be either "Whatever, it doesn't matter," or "Whatever, I don't really care."

But I'm not sure in what context you're complaining about Whatever, so, whatever.

It wasn't in reply to a question.

It was addressing a situation.

And when it comes to that, I don't think friends should treat their friends as "whatever". I feel it's disrespectful and uncaring.

When it comes down to deciding what to eat or movie to watch, "Whatever" works.

But when it's, "That was rude and I didn't appreciate it." "Whatever" sure doesn't work in my books.

(That's not specifically what this little outburst is about, but I actually have had exchange with someone. I haven't spoken to them since.)

I try not to get into situations where replying whatever will result in anything like that :)

Although with the number of people I've offended in the past, I try to be forgetful about everything - except for the harsh stuff like mindless killing (still wavering on mindful) and other things that would generally fall in the NC17/Catergory3 rating. And I guess I've been fortunate enough to really befriend anybody who likes to dabble in that kind of stuff.

I think the fact most people can beat me up is subtly woven throughout my philosophy.

Just a hunch.
