Clark's statement was a true as it gets, and MOVEON's defense of him was well deserved.
Even Obama had the sense to back down.
It's a shame the Democrats are being so "correct" (even as regards the truth).

Somewhere recently, when I commented that I thought Clark would be a good pick, some conservative commenter said something about his having been "fired for incompetence" or some such nonsense. Any idea to what he/she could have been referring?

Unfounded rumor and accusation. Other US generals (active and retired) have thrown the occasional dirt clod at him, but no one will ever provide even hazy generalizations, much less specifics. To wit, Wikipedia General Hugh Shelton would say of Clark during his 2004 campaign that "the reason he came out of Europe early had to do with integrity and character issues, things that are very near and dear to my heart. I'm not going to say whether I'm a Republican or a Democrat. I'll just say Wes won't get my vote.

If there's anything to it at all, I suspect that it's politics: he rubbed the wrong guy the wrong way, and was forced into a decision between having the last year or two of his career be more difficult than it needed to be, or saying 'fuck it' and retiring. At that point, he did what most generals do in that circumstance. ...that's my guess, anyway.

Texas, Indiana, Alaska...not firmly in the Red column. That just seems so wrong. And wonderful.

Alaska, I could see. The idea of Texas being a swing state...unlikely, but oh so wonderful if it happened.

I'm pessimstic though. I am still imagining scenarios where the Republicans win this election, demographics and trends be d*mned.

I want to hammer in a solid progressive majority along with Obama, and Clean House.

So, is Eastern Nebraska its own state now?

Nebraska and Maine handle / allocate Electoral College votes differently - by Congressional district.
