Medical ignorance ricochet:

Earlier, I was mentioning Mere’s icky liquid oral antibiotics, and then James Nicholl saw that, shuddered, and related his own tale of woe. Mere, by the way, is now using a different set of the bug-killers that isn’t bad at all, or so she says.

I have a few more of my own from my crimson past. Details below the cut.

I fortunately don't remember much in the way of antibiotics from childhood. I remember taking tablets and capsules but no suspensions.

The one liquid that still gets a rise out of my stomach is actually a cough syrup. Trade name is Phenergan with codeine. Pseudo grape flavor. Even just dispensing it in the pharmacy makes me queasy.

We have been lucky in that most doctors we have had dealings with are willing to confess the limits of medical training. In fact, my primary physician says he did not study folks like me in med school. This lack of absolute means that they will listen to my wife, kids, and myself and take our accounts of strangeness into account. Thus the usual 11 months of pregnancy, inverse drug reactions, and other oddities are taken into account and not a reason to panic. The reactions to those funny green rocks from Kansas though...
