Tucked into the wonderful stuff passed was an amendment requiring government issued ID (I think photo ID but I am not sure) to vote in a federal election. It was apparently added at the last minute and not announced.

As to the status of English as our national language: What degree of fluency will be required? I can say "I do not speak your language" in about 6 languages but am only fluent in English. (OK, also a few dialects of English.) To judge from his speeches our President is marginal in American Standard English. Would some one who can answer only basic questions in English be counted as fluent?

Ah, but you answer your own question: complete fluency is not necessary, but you must be at least as adept in English as the current president of the U.S.

Texas accent not required.
