I can't think of anything to say except hugs to all of you. And thank god for hospice because, as difficult as all this is, can you imagine how frightening it would be if nobody was around to explain what to expect? When my dad entered this stage, I found it incredibly reassuring to have hospice explain how these are normal steps on the journey. Distressing steps, boy howdy, but normal.

Oh, not to say they haven't been helpful; this was a critical need, and we don't have any sort of a good alternative.

I saw a lot of this progression when my Mom died 8 years ago. Susan ran into a book called FINAL GIFTS about this process, and passed it on to me; she's memorized a lot more of the details than I have.
