I have a strange feeling I saw the original broadcast. Many of those 60s variety shows were little more than self-congradulatory showcases, but sometimes they provided some unique experiences.
What I like about this - besides the fact that it includes a few Sherman parodies that he never put on disc - is that it basically just consists of three guys goofing around on camera. You don't get to see so much of that kind of thing any more on today's glossier, scripted entertainment programs.
Worth noting is that, when Dean Martin sings Sherman's (otherwise unrecorded) ode to Bela Lugosi, he's parodying one of his (Martin's) own big hits, "Besame Mucho." That may account for the sheepish expression on Martin's face at the time.
Oh, that's a hoot and a half. And hearing Dean's and Vic's mellow voices on those songs is great. Although I did notice that the live band went away for the closing number -- I know that recording too well. ;)
