Interesting article on how India’s endemic corruption problems are holding the country back, with this comment from the Prime Minister:

“The pervasive corruption in our country tarnishes our image [and it] discourages investors who expect fair treatment and transparent dealings with public authorities.”

Same problem with China. In fact, it's a bit worse; the base assumption in many industry circles is that if you do business in a technical sense with China, you need to make ONE BIG SALE... because the first thing that will happen to the ones you sell is that they'll be reverse-engineered and you'll never sell another widget again.

Interesting article, especially the detailed explanation of how India got that way, beginning from 19th century British bureaucracy. I'd have thought that corruption in Indian government went back much further than that, like to the time of the Mugal emperors at least.
