Shattered childhoods:

Jun 05, 2009 00:56

ABE Books sent me a note with this list of 20 fiction and non-fiction books dealing with horribly messed up childhoods.    Interesting set; I’ve read several of them, but I’m avoiding depressing or sad stuff recently.   Worth a look for my readers in the audience…

children, sad, books

I liked the description of Lord of the Flies as "written as a repost to" RM Ballantyne. "Repost," really? The computer age is upon us. I wish I could think of an adequate riposte to that.

I'm also avoiding depressing fiction. Life is unsettled enough these days that I want my entertainment to be entertaining.

While some people have had bad childhoods and a gifted account of such times can be gripping reading I get the feeling that the list was sort of a "I had it worse".
