The new African American head of the Republican party making racist comments about Indian-American Governor Bobby Jindal, going on about ’slum love’. Same guy who was talking about his hip-hopization of the face of the GOP (I want to watch Boehner and Cantor do hip-hop in the well of the House, yes I do)  and threatening GOP Senators who voted for ( Read more... )

That Larison piece is amazing. Nice to know that not all conservative thinkers are bigots, morons, or both.

Larison is worth a regular read; he's a conservative with a honest, good mind.

The thing is there haven't been many real conservatives in the GOP for awhile now. Certainly not the "government is the problem" crowd that started with Reagan and kept on coming. A conservative (in this liberal's view) is someone who sees government as a differently shaped tool than a liberal, but a useful tool nonetheless.

Everyone who maintains that government of the people, by the people and for the people is the cause of our problems is somewhere between a Tory and a traitor to the Constitution IMAO.

Steele actually comes from a fairly hard background, but Jindal's family is like upper-middle-class professional, so "slum love" is beyond weird.

Wow. And these bozos are considered the cream of the crop!

They give new meaning to scraping the bottom of the barrel. If you lift the barrel, you would find them under it.

Curtis Sliwa was the one who brought up "slum-love" not Steele. Steele just sort of went along with it.

Notice that I gave the link for the transcript of the actual interview for people to read; I would think that a professional pol (who is black) could turn on a dime and say "dude. drop it" or something to the point of pointing out that You're Not Funny or This is Rude. Not much of a message handler if you can't do that, and going along with the host being a putz doesn't say much for you.

I mean, there's some people who can't deal with telling Rush he's a dork, but scared of Curtis freaking Sliwa? Come *on*, dude.

Ok, you have a point about Steele on that account. He should have spoken up.

Yep. Some radio hosts are going to see if they can stir up stink, regardless of their politics, IF they're overly political, because their real point is to Get Attention and ratings. Think of all the stupid shock jocks and the stunts they pulled, and what happens when they push it just too far and they self-immolate. They also love to get some politician to say something 'exciting' on their show so people will pay attention; announce their candidacy, et cetera.

Expecting someone like that to show restraint or go along with whatever they say is *um* dumb, regardless of your politics or POV. Dead air is not their friend; you could just shut up and walk out the door, or just STAY there and shut up and the host will look like a dork from the dead air.
