Groundhog Day:

Feb 02, 2009 09:44

And yes, once again, it’s that major non-national-but-ought-to-be holiday, Groundhog Day, where the Groundhogs pop out of their lairs and ask for German Chocolate cake.  We bears think this is species-ist, and demand our own holiday.

Meredith is home with a fever today; I don’t think it’s anything major, but it’s flattened her yesterday and today ( Read more... )

Thank you for the reminder about regional differences in the weather!

Here in SoCal, we rely on ground squirrels, who report continuing winter conditions in the event that they don't see their shadows. Alas that our local GS Union is on strike and aren't permitting any winter here at all!

You have to have better relations with your ground squirrels.

Out west, I see things like this:

So, how much wood WOULD a woodchuck chuck? If a woodchuck would chuck wood, that is?

(My preferred question, in bars that serve Woodchuck cider, is "How much Woodchuck would Chuck upchuck if Chuck would chug one jug of Woodchuck?", but it doesn't make me any more popular)

The answer from my woodchuck is - as much as they *want* to chuck. Otherwise, it's a state secret.

One *jug* of Woodchuck? Never seen it sold that way. My woodchuck will up chuck, and loudly too, but she doesn't drink spirits of any kind. She will very very rarely have a little ale, but that's waaaaay rare, and only a few sips of mine.

My woodchuck will chuck up orange roughy, and continue through the rest of whatever she's been fed for the last couple of weeks, so we try to keep her away from that.

My father had a pet groundhog as a lad. It used to sleep in the kitchen by the cookstove and was unbearable in the morning until it had a bowl of corn mush laced with black coffee. It did not hibernate in the winter due to the warmth of the kitchen and the daily dose of coffee. If they had had a daily paper I think it would have wanted that every morning too.

My groundhog occasionally drinks coffee in the morning, and has no interest in corn mush. Creamed corn, yes, but I consider creamed corn to be an offense against nature.
