The Boston Red Sox are/were owned by the New York Times? Isn't that unpatriotic or traitorous or something?

I was surprised by that myself.

The Times also owns the Boston Globe, if I remember correctly.

So was I when I read it this morning.

It makes Steinbrenner's complaints that the Times' sports page was biased against the Yankees almost legitimate.

I ask again: why is Bernie Madoff allowed to walk free, instead of being left to rot on Ryker's Island? Is it because his biggest proponents figure that they'll get their money first if he's free, or is it because they're afraid that they might be next the moment he's savagely beaten and raped on his first night in the hole?

Well, they have to try him first, but I dunno as to why he's not in with someone singing Bess, you is my woman now in a lovely basso profundo. Oh, the stories he could tell.

I understand that he's still innocent until proven guilty, but $50 billion is gone, and he's not in jail awaiting sentencing? Oh, and the little stunt of his mailing "gifts" to relatives over the holidays so they can't be confiscated to pay back victims?

I agree. I still think that prison cell gimmick might work.

When you post that a government fell, I expect to see something other than someone resigned; something more along the lines of "... and is now ruled by a military junta", or "... and has returned to the Old Ways and will be sending out modern-era versions of longboats to sack Europe in the name of Odin."

Sorry. They could stuff the fellow in a geyser. They did replace him with a lesbian, which is a different type of revolutionary whatever.
