The carpet fan is whirring away in the background, and I think we dodged the bullet on this one, at least as far as It Could Have Been Worse. If you have anything irreplaceable that you would spring $50-100 for a "cubic foot" you can check with places like Munters or BMS Cat (both have Chicago area offices - Munters is in Glendale heights for professional type services.)
We had an incident at work where someone had a plant on a filing cabinet and the pot leaked regularly - the mold on the files was like 3/4 of an inch of fur...
