Drying out…

The carpet fan is whirring away in the background, and I think we dodged the bullet on this one, at least as far as  It Could Have Been Worse.  The major damage that isn’t replaceable is a small stack of papers I’d set aside for scanning, which were on the floor in my office.  I’m thinking that I’m going to try to dry the wet papers that are ( Read more... )

Yup - one lump, unwrapped - you know how things in the freezer dry out - that's what you want. Blot as dry as possible first.

If you have anything irreplaceable that you would spring $50-100 for a "cubic foot" you can check with places like Munters or BMS Cat (both have Chicago area offices - Munters is in Glendale heights for professional type services.)

We had an incident at work where someone had a plant on a filing cabinet and the pot leaked regularly - the mold on the files was like 3/4 of an inch of fur...

Well, I froze the stuff I couldn't dry out right away, but it wasn't much compared to the rest...

The residuals on mold spores drove my eyes nuts for two days, though. Really. Bad.
