Yeah, it scares me too:

I’m starting to get concerned for Obama’s safety on the campaign trail.  Here’s Joe Klein of TIME on the tenor of the McCain rallies:

But seriously, folks, I’m beginning to worry about the level of craziness on the Republican side, the over-the-top, stampede-the-crowd statements by everyone from McCain on down, the vehemence of the crowds that ( Read more... )

I'm seriously entertaining the thought that McCain has decided that his only hope for victory is to stoke some wingnut to "rid me of this meddlesome priest"....

Just posted a link to a pair of video clips showing how the bile is spreading.

McCain actions show him to be a thug, plain and simple.

The other night, Keith Olbermann reported that at the beginning of a Republican rally, before the reporters had all their recording equipment in place, a Republican official made a pitch for campaign volunteers: "Do you want Obama to win the election, or are you going to volunteer to stop him?"

That "volunteer to stop him" could mean something other than knocking on doors or helping with mailings. Those people scare me.

I've been warning about this for a long time. It's not just the racism, it's not just the religious nuts, it's not just the anti-gay sphincter conservatives, it's not just the America Only! pseudo-patriots, it's that they all seem to feed off each other. Who were the people who hid Eric Rudolph when he was on the run? Sarah Palin may speak to the GOP "base", and that's reason enough to vote a straight Democratic ticket.

I'd not really picked up on all this kind of extremist talk coming from the Republicans (but then I do live in another continent). There has been a lot of talk over here along the lines of "Obama will never be president, They will kill him", but it always seemed a bit like a lazy cliché. What you are reporting sounds genuinely disturbing, reminiscent to me of the atmosphere of hate preceding the Rabin assassination in Israel; that was also mainstream right-wingers playing to the crazies.

It is stating the obvious, but your country is in big big trouble if Obama is murdered.
