[Translation] Potato June 2011: Begins To Shine

May 17, 2011 15:47

Here is the fresh junior part from the June 2011 issue of Potato. The theme of the photo-shoot was "Begins to Shine." Since there were a lot of juniors in this article, next to the translated version of their names I briefly described what each junior was wearing and the color of the box that his part was written in, in case anybody has any difficulties identifying a junior.

Amu Haniuda (wearing a white shirt with a weird face with a hat on it, pink text box): I’ve always been good at sports, but the dances that I’ve started doing since I joined Johnny’s were harder than I expected. However, I practice with all my power every day, and someday I’d sure like to be able to dance coolly like Michael Jackson. Just like my admired Shō Sakurai-kun, I’m aiming to debut while steadily progressing at my schoolwork, and I’m doing my best!
Amu Haniuda. Born November 26th, 1997 in Tōkyō. Blood Type: A. Height: 150cm. Strength: Cheerfulness. Skill: Shooting. Best Sport: Soccer. Favorite Food: Melon. Admired Sempai: Sakurai-kun.
I’m hoping that when Haniuda says his skill is “shooting,” he’s talking about archery… Although having a junior who could handle a gun would be kind of awesome.

Sou Matsushima (wearing a black polka-dotted shirt, orange text box): The lessons are difficult, but combining different styles of dance and trying them out is super fun! Even at my house, I practiced dancing while I watched Hey!Say!JUMP’s concert DVD. My goal is to be put into a group and to debut. Also, I really like animals, so someday I’d like to try appearing on [Tensai! Shimura Dōbutsuen] (smile).
Sou Matsushima. Born November 27th, 1997 in Shizuoka. Blood Type: A. Height: 143cm. Nickname: Mattsu. Hobby: Snowboarding and cooking. Favorite Food: Grapes and sturgeon sashimi. Admired Sempai: Yūri Chinen-kun
Yet another reason to like Matsushima: he likes animals :D. Also, I’m guessing he admires Chinen because they’re both short. Matsushima is only a day younger than Haniuda, but Haniuda is 7cm taller than him. Also, I know that technically it should be “Sō” not “Sou,” for the sake of consistency, but I prefer the way “Sou” looks, so I’m keeping it like that.

Shōri Satō (wearing a black shirt with a gold chain around the neckline, magenta text box): When I was able to see the stage-play [~SHOCK] in March, I was seriously moved by the sense of unity that I felt the actors had! I’m doing my best at practicing singing and dancing so that someday I can appear in a stage-play too. Lately, I’ve been watching NEWS’s DVD frequently. It made me truly happy when at the [Marching J] event, where I was permitted to hold a donation box, people made donations while telling me: “please do your best” even though they didn’t know who I was. Besides that, I was also moved when SMAP’s Shingo Kato-san actually spoke to me! The conversation topic? …I was so nervous that I can’t remember (smile).

Kaoru Kuramoto (wearing a white shirt with a smiling peace sign on it, salmon text box): The theme of the [The Shōnen Club] episode that was just filmed was “yell,” to send support to the victims. The songs all had a “do your best” message to them, so we put our hearts into trying our hardest at dancing while thinking: “we hope to send you our power.” I was moved at how many people came to give donations at [Marching J]! From now on, I want to steadily keep participating in those kinds of events. In other current affairs, the filming of [Yan Yan JUMP] has been fun. I’m still nervous, but I want to get everyone excited without forgetting to smile!

Yūya Taniguchi (wearing a black shirt with “85” on it, dark pink text box): In April, I became a middle school student. Being able to talk to many people since I entered Johnny’s Juniors has been fun, however the truth is I’m kind of bad at dancing… When I’m standing onstage and I have to rotate, I get confused. So right now I’m training extra hard at dancing. Recently, I’ve been doing things like assisting at the [Marching J] charity event and appearing on [Yan Yan JUMP]. On [Yan Yan JUMP] the plan was for me to participate in a game, but in the end I didn’t get to. Next time, if I get the chance, I want to do my best! But I wonder if I’ll be able to play.~
This junior is so photogenic, if he looks bad in any picture, it’s clearly entirely the fault of the photographer.

Luis Ōkubo (wearing a white, blue-striped collared shirt, light blue text box): [Marching J] was an event where I was able to encounter many significant experiences that had different meanings. There were people who waited in the looo~ng fundraising lines for more than 6 hours, and the way they all made donations with a smile conversely gave us energy, instead of us being the ones to give energy to them. In the middle of it, there were people saying: “Luis, do your best” and “Luis, I love you” which truly really, really moved me! Also, it sure made me super ~ happy when V6’s Masayuki Sakamoto-san, who was carrying the donation box with me, rubbed my shoulder and kindly asked me: “are you cold?”
Aww, Sakamoto-san sounds like such a nice sempai.

Kazunari Yamashita (wearing a red jacket, aqua text box): I was able to participate in [Marching J] on the first and third days, and it made me happy that all the people who came to give donations were smiling! I was also able to meet many sempai who I ordinarily wouldn’t get to know. In particular, SMAP’s Masahiro Nakai-san’s talk was so truly entertaining that I almost suddenly dropped the donation box I was holding (smile). Recently, I’ve been taking singing lessons, and at the moment I’m in the middle of practicing “Garasu no Shōnen” by the Kinki Kids. When my voice changes, it’ll be difficult to hit high notes, so I’m being taught about abdominal breathing and basics like that. I love singing, so it’s fun.

Saneyasu Takahashi (wearing a brown, green, and yellow plaid shirt, dark blue text box): At the [Yan Yan JUMP] filming, I tried handball for the first time. It was unexpectedly difficult and I wasn’t able to play on a team... That was rough! Tonight I want to try harder. In addition to that, in the middle of [Marching J] I lost my voice, and I wasn’t able to properly greet all the people that came to donate, which was incredibly regrettable too. But inside my heart I kept saying: “thank you very much.” When I saw the news, I thought: “what can I do to support the victims?” and therefore I was truly happy to be participate in the event.

Akatsuki Hanzawa (wearing a jean jacket, light blue text box): It’s been approximately 2 years since my parents sent in my resume and I joined Johnny’s. Right now I’m working at dancing with all my strength. In April, I was given the opportunity to appear on [Test no Hanamichi]. At first I was so nervous that I couldn’t say anything, but from the second time onward I became more composed. But on air I just sat there, so I’d like to work hard and move forward.
Akatsuki Hanzawa. Born January 22, 1994 in Tōkyō. Blood Type: O. Height: 179cm. Favorite Food: Curry. Favorite Type of Girl: A cheerful girl whose easy to talk to. Admired Sempai: Jin Akanishi-kun and Yūya Tegoshi-kun.

Daiki Hanawa (wearing a light blue Converse hoody, aqua text box): On [Yan Yan JUMP] we played handball. The members of Hey!Say!JUMP and us juniors were formed into competing teams; we were really into it, so got pretty heated up. I’ve been playing handball since P.E. class in elementary school, and since I scored one point I probably helped the team out a little (smile). Recently I started singing lessons, and I’ve practiced singing songs like [Garasu no Shōnen] by the Kinki Kids and [Monster] by Arashi. My current goal is to be able to sing vibrato. It’s seriously difficult, but by putting in a great effort I want to become even just a little bit better!

Rei Wakiyama (wearing a black and red checkered shirt, sky blue text box): My older sister sent my application in, and that was my cue to join the juniors. I get to do dances that I like so it’s fun, but during lessons I often slouch and that makes the instructors angry (smile). I was also sluggish during [Takizawa Kakumei], and that made Hideaki Takizawa-kun get angry and tell me: “run!” Though there are strict parts of his personality, Takizawa-kun is a truly reliable person. It’d sure be nice if I could become that kind of sempai.
Rei Wakiyama. Born October 20th, 1996 in Tōkyō. Blood Type: B. Height: 170cm. Strength: It seems like my heart is wide. Favorite Movie: [GANTZ] and [Ashita no Joe]. Favorite Food: Meat. Admired Sempai: Takizawa-kun.
A boy who can be honest about his flaws, like Wakiyama, is quite admirable :D.

Ryūsei Akiba: (wearing a Converse tee shirt and a tan and blue plaid shirt, dark blue text box): During shows like [The Shōnen Club], I get the opportunity to dance behind B.I.Shadow and other junior sempai groups. I also participated in the [Marching J] fundraising event. I thought that it was really great to have entered Johnny’s when we all bonded together to make that sort of event happen. Also, Jun Matsumoto-kun kindly asked me: “are you cold?” in the middle of the event. It was a super cold day, but because I was doing my best, I was warm. Right now I have lots and lots of dance lessons, but I also want to challenge acting. I want to play any character but the bad guy in a school themed drama (smile).

Kyōhei Nishimoto (wearing a brown hoody, spring green text box): I got to be an assistant at [Marching J]. On the third day, I got to support Satoshi Ohno-kun and Toma Ikuta-kun as they descended from the stage! At first I nervously walked at the back, but Toma-kun said: “come to the front,” and that made me really happy. It’s been about half a year since I entered the juniors. The dance lessons have become harder, so it’s a little difficult. But I love Yamada-kun, and that’s why I’ve been using the [SUMMARY] DVD as a reference and practicing at home too. When Yamada-kun talked to me during one of the concerts, I thought that I had received the opportunity to get closer to a real performer (smile).

Rin Takahashi (wearing a long sleeved skull shirt, dark green text box): At the [Marching J] event, I was moved that so many people came to make donations. From now on, I want to keep doing things to help out. Other than that, just before this I made an impression on [The Shōnen Club]. The truth is that I was super nervous, and inside my chest my heart was pounding like crazy, but I thought that I couldn’t show that side so onstage I did my best with a smile. Tonight I want to practice dancing and singing more, and my goal is to have the audience look at me and think: “cool!” But at the moment, rather than “cool,” the only thing the fans say about me is that I’m “cute…" Still just a little kid, that’s me (smile).

Yūta Jinguuji (wearing a yellow shirt, lime green text box): It’s been about half a year since I joined the juniors, and the dance lessons have gradually gotten harder so now remembering it all is difficult. Things like participating in this photo-shoot are really fun (smile). My goal is to dance beautifully like Yamada-kun, but I can’t really do it. Being able to meet cool sempai makes me happy, yo. Having people you’ve seen on television be right before your eyes somehow gives me an odd feeling. At first I was rea~lly surprised. Right now I’m being given the opportunity to appear on [The Shōnen Club]. I don’t really get nervous there, so I love the fun feeling of being on the show!
Jinguuji, you sure jump around a lot xD. I think he changed topics every line.

Fuu Takahashi (wearing a white shirt with red sleeves, light green text box): I thought that I wanted to work in the entertainment world, so I sent in my application and took the audition on my own. Break dance style dancing is my skill, my point of pride, and gradually I want to use my dancing to appeal to audiences at concerts and on television programs! Also, I want to try acting in a drama. I’ve been in the theater club at my school, so I have an interest in acting. I definitely want to appear in something like a school related drama.
Fuu Takahashi. Born May 8th, 1998 in Saitama. Blood Type: O. Height: 160cm. Skill: Break dancing, head spinning. Favorite Food: Melon bread. Favorite Type of Girl: a cool girl. Admired Sempai: Arashi.
For some reason, Fuu reminds me a lot of Yasui. Also, Fuu’s name is the same as Sou’s, in that I’d rather write the extra “u” instead of “ū.”

Genta Matsuda (wearing a white shirt with a pink collar and aqua patches on the shoulders, dark green text box): During February of this year, I was encouraged by the people around me to send in my application to Johnny’s and take an audition. I was super happy when I got to appear on [The Shōnen Club], which I often watch, for the first time. My goal for the future is to become a cool dancer like my admired Chinen-kun and Ryōsuke Yamada-kun and debut. To accomplish that goal, I do my best in my lessons every day!
Genta Matsuda. Born April 19th, 1999 in Saitama. Blood Type: O. Height: 150cm. Nickname: Gengen. Favorite Food: the fried chicken that my mama makes. Admired Sempai: Tomohisa Yamashita-kun and Chinen-kun.
