I've translated some of the fresh junior's parts from Potato 02/2011. The theme is "pure heart," and most of the juniors chose to talk about the Touzai Uta Gassen, although there were some exceptions. Follow the cut to read what Kyohei Nishimoto, Ibuki Aono, Kotaro Tanaka, Lewis Ohkubo, Kaoru Kuramoto, Yuya Taniguchi, Yuta Jinguuji, and Taiki Ichimiya have to say.Edit: Added Rin Takahashi, Koki Ito, Ryusei Akiba, and Yuki Yamagata.
Kyohei Nishimoto: During the opening of [Touzai Uta Gassen!], at the moment when the spotlights shone on the audience and their enthusiasm was transmitted to be, I was surprised and my heart started beating fast, and it felt so good! It sure made me happy when Tsubasa Imai-kun kindly connected with me in the dressing room. Someday I want to become a warm sempai like Tsubasa-kun! This year I’ve been challenging many things, and through various experiences I’d like to find a new self. I still can’t do a back flip, but I’d like to try doing acrobatic moves.
Ibuki AOno: The person I admire is Arashi’s Satoshi Ohno-kun, who can sing and dance well. Dancing is fun because if you practice properly, you can become good. But as I was dancing at [Touzai Uta Gassen!], I looked at the people around me; I want to do my best so that from next time on, I can be the example that others look at. I’ll practice dancing with a smile, so everyone please watch me!
Born May 27th, 1998. Shizuoka. Gemini. Blood type A. Height: 154cm/5”0. Weight: 35kg/77lbs. Admired sempai: Satoshi Ohno-kun. Nickname: Aono. Strength: My energy.
Note: This boy is seriously adorable. I love his short, spiky hair. And he has the same birthday as me ^^ (though not the same year).
Kotaro Tanaka: I was super nervous at [Tousai Uta Gassen!] since so many of the sempai who I watch on television appeared onstage and the audience was really big. But because Takki and Tsubasa called out to us: “dance spontaneously, okay,” I was able to have fun dancing, and I learned a lot from watching my sempai onstage. I think that now I want to try even harder at dancing. Lately I’ve been practicing alone to Hey!Say!JUMP’s new song, yo. It seems like 2011 is going to be a year where I improve my skills!
Note: One of my favorite fresh juniors. His confidence and dedication are just <3.
Lewis Ohkubo: [Touzai Uta Gasssen] was the first concert that I’ve ever been in so I was really nervous, but I gradually relaxed and it was so fun that by the end of it I thought: “I want to do this dozens more times!” It’s addictive. The wonderful thing was that Tomohisa Yamashita-kun, KAT-TUN, and Hey!Say!JUMP were there. I thought: “I’m back-dancing for amazing people” and got nervous again… But because, for some reason, I smile when I’m nervous, it was probably alright (smile).
Kaoru Kuramoto: I didn’t have a special interest in dancing, but at [Touzai Uta Gassen!] I appeared in a concert for the first time, and somehow it felt super great and refreshing to my body, and now I love dancing. Even though I made a few small mistakes, it was fun so I smiled the whole time (smile). Next time too, I don’t want to fear failure, and if I do mess up I want to keep dancing confidently and not show it. I want to seriously follow the example of my beloved Masaki Aiba-kun and Sho Sakurai-kun from Arashi and be cheerful and have fun.
Yuya Taniguchi: I was super nervous at [Touzai Uta Gassen!], but as I danced it gradually became fun! On the first day of practice, I messed up the dance, so I practiced one more time at home, and then on the second day I got it, yo. At the event, I felt like I received a lot of energy from the audience. My sempai Ryosuke Yamada-kun’s dancing especially made an impression on me. It was so sharp and cool! I’d like to become able to dance like Yamada-kun.
Note: Now that his hair has grown out, he doesn't look anything like chibi Kota Yabu, but he's still adorable in his own way.
Yuta Jinguuji: My pride is the size of my feet. Right now they’re 26cm and they’re still growing. I’m usually seen as “the kid who is as proportionally big as his feet” or “the kid with awfully straight pitch black hair.” The dream I’m involved in right now is dance. It’s fun but I’m still terrible so I want to aim for being able to dance more beautifully.
Born October 30th, 1997. Chiba. Scorpio. Blood Type O. Height: 156cm/5”1. Admired sempai: Takuya Kimura-san. Nickname: Jin-kun. Strength: The way my feet keep getting bigger and bigger.
Note: Yabu_takeshi noticed this junior in Touzai Uta Gassen (he's the one standing next to Kei Kurita in the VTRs). The way he keeps talking about his feet is hilarious. It looks like now Nokkun (Yuki Nozawa of MSM) has some competition in the big feet department xD.
Taiki Ichimiya: Right now I’m collecting Doraemon goods. I’m especially interested in handbags. Also, when I use Doraemon stationary, I get the feeling that my studying is better… Maybe it’s just my imagination? (smile) This year I want to do my best and make everyone know who I am. Someday I sure would like to appear on Doraemon.
Born November 7th, 1999. Wakayama. Scorpio. Blood type A. Height: 149cm/4”9. Weight: 35kg/77lbs. Admired sempai: Yuma Nakayama-kun. Nickname: Icchi. Strength: The way I’m nice.
Note: Okay, this junior's obsession with Doraemon is so cute. Also, I noticed that they messed up his name, or rather, the letter that they asigned to his name. Instead of a "T" to correspond to "Taiki," they gave him a "D."
Rin Takahashi: [Touzai Uta Gassen!] was incredibly fun! The high point was Hey!Say!JUMP’s “Arigato~Sekai no Doko ni Ittemo,” it got me excited and was super fun. The audience was so nice, I got power from them, yo. Even though it’s been 3 days since it ended, my heart is still racing, I feel: “I want to be in another concert again soon!” I’m addicted. I love dancing, singing, exercising, and talking, so I want to have fun doing my best at many things while becoming good friends with all the juniors!
Koki Ito: [Touzai Uta Gassen!] was the first time that I’ve ever been a stage, so I seriously practiced a lot. I worked hard with the feeling: “lets make something good together!” and I think that the bond between me and my fellow juniors deepened. I was so happy that I got to see my beloved Kazuya Kamenashi-kun performing; when “Seishun Amigo” started I was so moved that I almost cried! That CD is the first one that I ever bought. I like the dance and the song equally well, so I’m going to do my best so that someday I can sing it!
Ryusei Akiba: At [Touzai Uta Gassen!] I worked harder than you could possibly imagine. During the regular lessons, there is a mirror in front of me and I’m able to synchronize with the others, but during the real thing, there isn’t a mirror. Because the audience is there in front of you! The first time that I stood onstage, I was overwhelmed by the sight of the audience, but from my second performance on it’s been fun to stand up on stage! From now on I’ll keep practicing a lot and following in the footsteps of those who have become skilled dancers!
Yuki Yamagata: Eagerness! Energy! I’m Yuki! At school I’m the captain of the soft tennis club, and to get physically strong I train with sit-ups and push-ups at home. The sempai I admire is Toma Ikuta-kun. I watched his drama “Unubore Deka {Conceited Detective}” without missing a single episode. Someday I want to co-star in a drama with Ikuta-kun!
Born October 12th, 2996. Kanagawa. Libra. Blood type O. Height: 167cm/5”5. Weight: 55kg/121lbs. Admired sempai: Toma Ikuta-kun. Nickname: Yuki. Strength: The way I have a lot of energy.
Note: I already have way too many juniors that I flail over, but the second I read the silly little pun that Yuki used to introduce himself, I was hooked. The pun is: "Yaruki (eagerness)! Genki (energy)! I'm Yuki!" Basically, the "ki" sound is the same in all three words, but the "ki" in Yuki's name is written with a different kanji. I'm a sucker for word play.
I didn't want to translate all 3 pages, since that would take way too much time, but I'm completely open for requests. Feel free to ask if you want me to translate one of the parts that I haven't done yet.
