It got ugly here in Denver as well. It's kind of interesting, if anything it seems like these hyperaggressive tactics are strengthening the movement.

Indeed. Had they been ignored, the media would have tired of OWS and moved on. You don't make a movement go away by causing iconic images of police brutality to be spread around the globe instantly.
