Don't you think Brown and Boxer and even Newsom are hedging? They stand to loose more by supporting than they gain by a non statement like the newspapers. Otherwise they couldn't care less.
Wasn't it you a bit ago who said that organizations like the prison guard union are pretty powerful?
Yes, they are probably hedging. Or it even could be that by not making it so controversial (since the issue won't enter the debates if both people agree) it might make it more likely for it to pass.
I'm not in CA so isn't super important to me but several of my California based dealing and smoking friends claim that the legislation is cooked to make certain existing large producers rich and everybody else pay more for worse quality. I'm just not concerned about it. As I stated, the details, barring some absurdity, are not important. The symbolism is what is critical.
Sadly I don't have the time to do my due diligence research, but I am hoping that the bill takes steps to prohibit smoking pot under the same conditions that one can't smoke cigarettes. I think it is silly for pot to be illegal; on the other hand, just like cigarette smoke, I don't want to breathe other people's 2nd hand smoke.
Allows people 21 years old or older to possess, cultivate, or transport marijuana for personal use. Permits local governments to regulate and tax commercial production and sale of marijuana to people 21 years old or older. Prohibits people from possessing marijuana on school grounds, ***>> using it in public <<***, smoking it while minors are present, or providing it to anyone under 21 years old. Maintains current prohibitions against driving while impaired.
