And now for the moment you have all been waiting for. I proudly present my first finished ArtRage painting, on which I have bestowed the simple but poignant name of…The Beachmaster.

Hey, some of us *have* to wear glasses, as our eyes reject contact lenses. ;-)

My current glasses *are* retro/hipsterish, but small ones do not work with my progressive lenses (ah, middle-aged eyes) and 80s oversized glasses are deformingly hideous (having worn them the first time around, and being almost unable to even *look* at any high school photos of myself behind what look like twin scuba masks, I get to say that). I did find my favorite pair of 90's Oliver Peoples postmodern wire catseyes on eBay, but my lenses are so expensive I can't justify putting my own prescription in them right now . . .

Oh goodness, I didn't mean all glasses, just hipster glasses! Sam-Tom used to wear glasses so I don't think a genereal critique of them would go down very well. If you look at the glasses in the picture you can see that they are oversized - no-one looks good in those. They're the sort of thing young beautiful people wear to prove that they can get away with it. But they can't. It's a humblebrag that doesn't come off.

True hipsters have moved on to the Terry Richardson style, which is basically wearing the same glasses my dad wears now, as opposed to the glasses he wore in the 50s & 60s, which are now too mainstream to fly in Williamsburg anymore. ;-)

Oh dear I wouldn't want to meet a "true" hipster. The adulterated, chronically backward Sheffield uni student version is already painful enough and I have a feeling it will get worse before it gets better.

That is epic and you should feel proud.

Now I'm wondering if my glasses count as hipster. I've never seen anyone else with glasses like mine, so I guess I'm wearing them before they're cool.

Wow, thanks! That's very kind of you :) And yeah I would say your look was alternative rather than hipster, in the event of anyone wanting my opinion on the topic.

What a splendiferous picture! There is so much detail to enjoy, it took me ages to take it all in, and I'm going to have another look at it right away!

I'm glad you liked it Tea-Hen! I'm sure you've seen plenty of annoying hipsters in Exeter.

A wonderful work of art, a Bayeux Tapestry for our time. Can I put it on the Facebook? I feel more people should see it and feel vaguely insulted by its implications.

Haha thankyou Sam-Tom. You can put this on Facebook to vaguely insult more people. I do have a larger version of it (about a monitor's width) which has more detail if you want - I just didn't want to clog up peoples' Friends pages with a huge picture.

I think this will be fine for the Book of Faces as it resizes them anyway.

Alright then Sam-Tom.

Does Artrage let you do prints? I would very much like this on my bedroom wall :) I would also like a beachmaster to menace the clientele of a coffee place I keep ending up at in the hope that they'll have Toblerone cake...

Thanks, I'm very flattered! Artrage lets you export pictures as a png file, and as I said to Sam-tom I do have a larger version of this picture if you want - though perhaps you prefer the more post-cardy size? I'm actually finishing up your lemur picture now so I can e-mail them both or print them out myself and send them physically if you want. And I apologise for the glacial pace at which the Great Work has been advancing.

A larger version would be lovely, so I can appreciate the detail :) Whichever is more convenient for you- one way or another both will be on my bedroom walls, along with more glow stars than a small student flat...

Ok then, no problem! I shall crack on with that as soon as I have waded through the current round of stupid job applications. I will look forward to my lemurs and elephant seals being ringed with stars!
