Well here we are back from the Friends of Arthur Machen annual meet-up. On Thursday we drove down to Stratford-Upon-Avon and checked into our hotel, the Legacy Falcon. The Machen events were actually taking place in the Shakespeare hotel just down the road, but from their respective websites we thought the Falcon seemed a nicer place to stay, and ( Read more... )

I was in Stratford the last time M. and I visited the UK -- seemingly ages ago -- and I remember we (

Yeah, some other Machenites went to see the witchcraft museum but changed their minds when they saw how expensive it was! I think seeing Shakespeare's plays is a much better way to travel back in time. I was quite pleased by how brown and grubby the outside of Shakespeare's house was though, considering all the hotels are spotless black and white! It's good they haven't tried to gentrify it too much.

In Britain a "cut-and-shunt" is actually a dodgy second-hand car illegally made by welding the front end of one car to the back end of another. I sincerely hope your mum in law's cat was not procured that way lol.

Ha funnily enough Duffy started muttering darkly about just such a device after a few minutes of watching David Cameron complaining that "people aren't listening to him" on the Beeb. Thanks for the link though as we didn't actually know of any by name! (Indeed it sounded so good I didn't even quite believe Duffy at first). Oh me of little faith.

I'm glad you had a good time. Stratford-upon-Avon sounds nice, Jack always wants to go to olde worlde places of Britain, so maybe we should have a weekend at that hotel.

I have sent you an email about maybe coming for the Sensoria festival?

I have replied to the email now! And yes, it doesn't get more olde worlde than Stratford, so I think Jack would certainly enjoy himself there. You don't have to visit the museums etc. to enjoy the sense of history either, which is good. Until very recently all the high street shops had to have their logos in black and white instead of their normal colours, and it's still the case for a lot of them! I also recommend the old traditional sweet shop, although the serving girl was a bit divvy and forgot my white-chocolate covered foam bananas.
