The Unpopular Fannish Opinions Meme

Jul 22, 2009 14:06

Gakked from cybermathwitch . I don't actually have enough familiarity with The Larger Scope of Fandom to know what's really Unpopular...so these are the things I think might be unpopular and/or I'm vaguely embarrassed about.
  • I have not read the Harry Potter books or seen all the movies. I'm ok with that.
  • I couldn't get through the Hyperion series.
  • Joss writes ( Read more... )

The Magician's Nephew is NOT the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia. Publication order, folks.

Alleluia! Preach it, Sister!

1) The Lord of the Rings movies were better than the books.

2) Joss Whedon can only write two characters: The spunky, ditzy, nerdy type (Xander, Keely, Willow) and the I am gruff, grim, and or crazy and I know martial arts type (River, Buffy, Spike). Mostly, Joss Whedon sucks.

3) Dracula, the book that Bram Stoker wrote, was pretty good. Other than that, vampires are stupid.

4) D&D is no excuse for poor hygiene.

5) Watching people have sex on a TV screen is not preferrable to the real thing.

6) Heroes, Lost, and everything else JJ Abrams has produced are horrible and the stories go nowhere.

7) Likewise Robert Jordan.

Harry Potter books are good and recommended - think about picking them up someday.

BTW, I'm cutting from Florida to NYC on my trip across the USA sometime mid-to-late august. Would you like to meet someplace for a cup of tea?

re: #6 - I think the only thing I've seen that Abrams has had anything to do with is the latest Star Trek movie - which, I must admit, I loved with every corner of my little Trekkie soul.

And yes, if you find yourself in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, please let me know. There are plenty of good places for tea!

that's a shame about Hyperion, because they really are some of my favorites. But Simmon's second Fantasy offering, Olympos,et.al., just pissed me off.

I utterly detest those Twilight movies. I can't even pretend to want to read the books.

I've never read the Narnia series, but I'm still upset they stopped making the movies, and do really enjoy Lewis.

i'm sure there's more, but I'm going to bed!

mwah!

According to the mighty interwebs, the Narnia movies have just transferred out from under the Disney umbrella - to Fox. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0980970/ We may yet have more Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep! (In my opinion, he was the only good thing about the Prince Caspian movie.)
I have neither seen nor read Twilight. I'm ok with that. But I do think it'd be beautiful to have Lestat (or Spike, take your pick) seduce and corrupt that prissy little Edward.
Oh! Speaking of Lewis, you've read Till We Have Faces, yes? If you haven't, you should. Retellings of myths are a goodness. :-)
Hope you're well!
