stupid technical question

SO sometimes when I save a gif to my computer and then upload it on LJ, the animation will play automatically on the screen.  But other times, it will just show up as a still and you have to click on the image and be taken to its LJ gallery place, where the animation does finally play.  How can I get the animation to play right away in my post?  I'
