Cobra Starship Fic: Merry We Are

Jan 07, 2009 21:40

We've been having a blustery few days, strangely warm but windy, and I keep coming inside from biking feeling like I've been tossed around by the weather as I battled my way through wet streets and up and down hills. Exciting and exhausting.

The popoffacork authors have been revealed, and I can now share the story I wrote for secrethappiness, for a pairing I've never ( Read more... )

Didn't read this one first time round because I'm overly cautious of this pairing, but I'm so so thankful that I followed the link here from someone's delicious.

This is so wonderful, so enchanting and deliciously scary, it's all twisty and turning like my favourite old fairytales were. There's nothing sugarcoated, just bare good and evil, and the atmosphere is so thick.

It's so nice, too, to read something so unusual, so far from what fanfiction usually is. Really enjoyed the total lack of other fandom characters, really enjoyed the feeling of another, a far away, land, really enjoyed the transplant of Alex and Ryland into another story, but one that's still theirs.

Thank you so much! It's interesting to hear you say that it feels kind of unfic-like to you, since I knew that I was trying for a very specific story feel that wasn't much like what I'd seen out there before. I'm glad it worked for you!

wonderful! I loved that it had pieces of from our trip; like leaving early in the morning, and the sun in your eyes, and the ache that spreads. It reminded me of so many fantasy stories we've read. Very sweet.

lol lol lol! This comment literally came to my inbox right after I sent an email to you haranguing you about reading.

I thought you would appreciate those bits! I'm so glad you read it and saw those bits! Do you think, if you had read the stories when the authors were anonymous, that you would have known I was the author just from that?

Hmm, I don't know if I'd have known it was you. I think I would recognize it as someone who's actually walked all day long with a full pack. I think I do recognize your writing style though. That would be an interesting experiment.

Oh, and it took me 2 hours to walk home. So about 3 mi an hour. I am too cool.

This is beautiful. I really love the language you use and the setting you created with it; it just felt really authentic and engrossing. And I love this pairing, I don't think it gets written often enough, considering how wonderful their story together is. This was a fantastic au, but I love how you kept in the elements of their friendship and how they found each other again, etc. Thank you for writing this! ♥

Thank you! One of the things that attracted me to this pairing was their delightful origin story, so I'm glad you liked it!
