Eight seconds from watching Sam walk towards him to seeing Sam being stabbed in the back and falling to the ground.
Eight more seconds for Dean to feel the life leak out of Sam, all over Dean’s hand.

He had been staring at the paper for over an hour, sitting in his attorney’s office. Yes, he had started this, but now it was real. It was ending.
…6…5…
This wasn’t just an autograph for some wide-eyed little kid or some foolishly grinning pink hat.
This was the ending of eleven years of his life. Actually, more than that. It was legal for eleven years.

It was eight seconds Jared would never trade for the whole world. He hoped Jensen felt the same way.

He made a few gulping sounds into the receiver, half-words and garbled words, an accurate tangle of emotion in the moment, and his mom translated.
"To St. Louis. With Ray King and Jason Marquis for J.D. Drew and Eli Marrero." The shadow of his smile flickered away now. He could hear Jenny opening the door behind him. He closed his eyes so he didn't have to imagine the pleasant look on her face, the happy energy coming off her in sparks. But these were the words that sank in, that ended the split emotions. These were names, players, a cityThis was a real as the ring he'd slid on Jenny' ( ... )
