Sorry to hear about the old site going its way over the rainbow, plenty of good memories there, but happy to hear that at least the fics will be saved. :) *runs off to fave*

Yes, I would also be very sorry to see it go. At least I can still access it, unlike my LOTR ring one, but I'd hate to encounter the 404 of doom one day, and it's much easier to transfer my fic now directly from the site than have to dig out all the docs from my computer! Happy faving! :)

What has endangered your site?

Both my LOTR website and Joyful Molly were registered at a time when the provider had about fifty sites. Now they have thousands, changed ownerships countless times and my sites have become relics, parked on some server that could be switched off at any time. I don't have to pay for them anymore (I offered to, but I guess they don't want the responsibilities coming with accepting payment, heh!), but it's completely open when they will disappear.

At least I can still access Joyful Molly (unlike Vanilla Elf and Elf on a Shelf), and I want to save my fic as long as the site is still up, because it's much easier to copy/paste from there than to dig through my computer to find all the original documents of the various stories. The non-fiction part is already up on my Joyful Molly blog, so nothing will be lost, should the website disappear. But I'm rather safe than sorry, and AO3 is perfect to host fiction, also because it allows for easy download etc.

Elf on a shelf was the FIRST LOTR site I ever came across when I first hit the interwebz....sad to hear that one day it might not be around anymore.
