"Ding Dong" is in bad taste. How about "Rust in Peace, Iron Lady"?

"There is no such thing as society: there are individual men and women, and there are families." - Margaret Thatcher

I'm following the beatification of Margaret Thatcher with increasing bewilderment. The best PM there ever was! A political genius! Saviour of Britain! Give the woman a state funeral!

She won't get a state funeral, though, only a ( Read more... )

In my view, Margaret Thatcher did irreparable damage to my country, and - apart from a rich elite who benefitted from her actions - we are all still paying the price for that, and probably will be for many, many decades to come. I wouldn't celebrate anybody's death, but I sure as hell won't be celebrating her life.

The broke up community and tore the fabric which makes a society. She was a terrible, terrible woman, and while I can't muster much emotions about the death of a 87 year old woman, I absolutely regret that she was born in the first place. So much of today's misery is a consequence of her politics; that so many people can't see this, STILL don't see it, is very depressing. I remember my young self, participating in protest marches against Reagan and Thatcher and all they stood for, and here we are, both being equipped with halos and declared saints. WTF.

Personally I'd have gone for Elvis Costello's Tramp the Dirt Down.

Speaking as another Scot, words can't express the visceral loathing I have for Thatcher.

My dad said everybody should attend her funeral, just to make sure she's really dead. You can tell she was much loved all over Europe...!

(When she was PM, my dad always said he'd love to offer her a ride in his company's car when she was on the news. Now with him being a funeral director, that's pretty telling!)
