Movies: Avengers - let's talk about Hawkeye

If I say that I've "waited ages" for that movie to be made, I'm not exaggerating. The first Marvel comic I've ever read was handed to me by my oldest brother back when I was seven years old, and as much as I hate to admit it: that was indeed ages ago. It was a German copy, of course - "Die Ruhmreichen Rächer" No. 50 (no idea what the US number was ( Read more... )

Greetings to Kurt, my fellow Marvelian! :D

If you ever come across the old "Silver Age" comics, give them a try. They are wonderfully cheesy at times (and a bit dated...), but very entertaining.. :)

I hadn't read Avengers comics before the movie came out, but we started watching an animated version that's out now. In it Hawkeye has the purple suit and is a snarky wise-ass. Tony is, too, but that's all from the Iron Man movies (and RDJ). The show also has Hank and Jan. I'm hoping that they just didn't have time to develop Clint's character (he was only on screen like 12 1/2 minutes or thereabouts).

The cartoon is well worth hunting down on the web (Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes). Sadly, Marvel has cancelled it after only two seasons and is creating one that more closely resembles the movie. Hopefully, it will be at least as good as this one.

Thanks so much for the tip! I've ordered the first DVD and am really looking forward to it. I hope for more Hawkeye in A2; it would be a shame to have a Jeremy Renner in your cast and not use him longer than ten minutes!

I hope you enjoy them! And totally agree about what a waste it would be not to put Renner's considerable talents (and glorious arms) to better use.

I grew up with Marvel, too, but mostly X-Men, with a bit of Doc Strange. Man, I'm hoping they have him in a movie one of these days. They had a pretty good animated one recently, but that's not the same.

Can't say much for Hawkeye, but Stark and Reed Richards (never liked F4, but I loved The Thing, he was always portrayed with such a great personality) have this secret cabal going on where they make Big Important Decisions In A Very Grave Manner. I think the RDJ-version is his own creation, movie-verse if you will. I think they went with previously well-established characters, so Hawkeye had to be somewhat more in the background for now.

And I think it would have been far too crowded a movie with Wasp and Ant-Man, though I really like Wasp. They'd have to introduce them, give us enough of them that we actually care about them, and try to fit that in with the Big Movie characters and the plot+action. Maybe in a future movie they'll take part, or at least have a cameo.

My brother didn't read X-Men, and I had to rely on his stocks. :) I caught up later, though.

Doctor Strange Master of Dark Magic - that would warrant his own movie. I'd so be there watching it!

WORD! I couldn't agree more. This annoyed me so much, I much prefer the movie version of Tony Stark.

Good point. They already couldn't give all characters enough screen time. But at least a cameo should be possible. *keeps fingers crossed*

Same here, I was stuck with whatever my brothers' read, which was X-men in my case. Super hero stuff wasn't for girls, according to my mother. I liked Dr.Strange mainly because he could do magic, and nothing was cooler than magic to a young me. The only thing cooler was Rogue+Gambit.

Stark and Richards are miserable bastards as far as I'm concerned. I loved Captain America all the more during the Civil War arc for opposing them. The only Iron Man I ever cared for was RDJ's.

I haven't (yet) seen the avengers... I'm so fallen behind I haven't even seen x-men:first class, captain america or Iron Man 2 :P the comic books/mags I have collected are from the 80s/early 90s and mainly x-men vs. avengers vs. åsgard. I just love their campy humor, unfortunately some of the movies seem to lack that
