How Gillette and Groves almost escaped to Mexico...

Hah! This interview has perfect timing - it's Wank Week, after all!

Greg Ellis, aka Lt. Groves in the PotC movies, has given an interview to Jim Hill, which is now available online. He talks about his work on “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” with Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally and Damian O’Hare, and ponders the ( Read more... )

Gee, I saw "wank" and thought it was going to be how Depp seems to have gone loco with middle-age crisis in the last couple of years, LOL. But this is almost as good - canon quality wank!

PotC 4 is one of those movies where the discussion before and the discussion afterwards was far more interesting than the movie itself. And there's no end to it! I can see me sitting here, shaking my head over Potc 18. Gah.

I just started seeing commercials last week for OST coming out on DVD tomorrow and I was like "Yeah? So what?" LOL. I'm FAR more interested in "The Three Musketeers" coming out later this week featuring a mustache-twirling eeeeeevil Orlando. *G*

Thanks for posting that, quite interesting! I can't see how a 5th installment could be anything else other than well, wank though...
The reason I make myself watch the sequels (COTBP was actually quite good, and our Navy boys still clean and properly attired) is the RNOTC. And I really can't see how there could be any RN characters left in yet another crappy attempt to squeeze even more money out of the franchise.

Disney will milk this cow until it'll give nothing but curdled milk. But seeing how no. 4 broke all audience records, it was clear there would be more. I'm not so sure if a fifth movie would have the same success, though; I know so many people who went to see no. 4 hoping it would be better than 3 and left disappointed.

There's nobody left to kill off. Well, Gibbs aside, but he might be safe as he's Jack's sidekick.

We're a minority and nothing will change, so let's have all the fun by discussing as we didn't have the fun watching. :)

Thank you so much for posting this... I desperately needed something fandom-related to smile about this morning, and the idea of Greg and Damian and Geoffrey and Kevin hanging around together and getting excited about the marine life following their ship made me grin like an idiot.

Also... Dear Mr. Ellis: As much as I adore you for trying to reason your way out of Theo being dead, DON'T FEED THE FANGIRLS FALSE HOPE. It's just mean. (And I say that speaking as one of the fangirls.)

Yes, it was a nice surprise in my mailbox; I love those little "behind the scenes" stories. :)

It's exactly because I do like Gillette and Groves that I hope they won't return. Enough is enough, let them rest in peace. I read somewhere that the question was asked to one of the writers (I think?) about a possible return, and he said very definitely that the two are dead. I can't blame Greg Ellis to try and get into yet another movie, of course, and Damian O'Hare would probably not cry either if he could film in Hawaii again. But no, just no. That ship has sailed.

I think I was having more of a "they might not be technically dead in canon! Hurrah!" reaction than I was having than a "Yay! They might be in the next film!" reaction. Since OST came out, I've come to agree with the idea that the PotC franchise has moved away from story lines that need Navy characters and the particular world view they represent in order to make the story GO. And having one's favorite characters in a story with very little to do is almost worse than not having them at all.

I read somewhere that the question was asked to one of the writers (I think?) about a possible return, and he said very definitely that the two are dead.

I also heard they said something pretty definitive along those lines in the commentary to The Scene I Don't Want To Talk About the battle at the Fountain scene.

Oh, please, Groves has died twice already. A lil' ole bullet can't kill him!
