Woof! A *really* old sea dog...!

My cats might disagree with the following story - as a matter of fact, Charlie just gave me his most disapproving look - but for all of you who think that dogs are man’s best friend:

Mary Rose’s dog unveiled for the first time

The 16th century sea dog acquired the nickname [Hatch] after divers discovered her remains near the sliding hatch door of ( Read more... )

Charlie's still sulking. Had to mollify him with milk this morning. ;-)

It's the little stories, like the one of Hatch, which make history interesting and more "real". I'm as interested in the fate of a little dog as the one of a big king.

London? Huuuh. Depends on what you're looking for. All I can say is "avoid the tube at all costs". It's been a nightmare this time. And check for strikes. At the moment, visiting London takes as much planning as an expedition to the Amazon. But if I can help you with anything, please yell. :-)

PS: seen the quote by Jack Davenport?

"shirtless is two short syllables to you. But it's like 9,000 situps to me."

Fascinating!

(And that is so typical of a cat! ^^)

Charlie considers himself to be an old tar, so understandably, he's getting very grumpy if his sea-legs are doubted! ;-)

I like the story a lot; it's one of those small tales that one will remember for a long while, much more so than the dates of "important" battles or the names of kings. :)

I didn't even know there was a dog aboard the Mary Rose. Poor Hatch!

Show Molly a mouse that isn't soft, sparkly, or pink, and she'll turn up her nose as if to say, "You expect ME to catch that? Isn't that what YOU'RE here for?"

Dogs could be found on many ships, cats only followed later, late 18th, early 19th century. I wish Hatch could talk, she could certainly tell a story or two!

Your Molly is a spoiled diva - she sounds like Emma! Fine, the next sparkly, soft, pink mousie wowsie I'll come across will be for her. :)

Pretty much Charlie's reaction as well. That, plus the Glare Of Death!

(Aw, your icon is lovely! Angel looks so innocent! Hehehe.)

That's really quite touching. :)

And wouldn't any self respecting cat employ a dog to do the hard work? ;)

Heh! Yes - dogs have masters, cats have staff. :P Now I have this weird idea of a cat running an employment agency for dogs stuck in my head... stop corrupting my brain!

I suspect the cat was running the Admiralty and that's how the dog ended up on board ;P

stop corrupting my brain!
Sorry!
