Curious person wants to know: do you go shopping in your PJ and barefoot?

sf_drama discusses supermarket chain Tesco's decision to set up a "dressing code" in one of their shops (if I got that right, I refuse to click a link to the Daily Fail). You're not allowed to wear your pajamas for shopping and you have to wear shoes.

To my great surprise, almost everybody in that thread thinks this is a stupid idea and that it doesn't ( Read more... )

Not normal here, at least not when the clothes are obviously pajamas (I can't imagine somebody in a sheer nightgown being allowed to wander through the aisles of my local CVS). I do live in a bit of a "snobby" area, admittedly, but the closest things I see to pajamas are just really casual sweat-type clothes and things like that. Most people around here also seem to need to be fully dressed in day clothes before even dropping their kids off at school, too--it's kind of a matter of "you never know who you'll bump into," I guess.

I've never seen it at my local Tesco. And I live in an area with a big student population! They sometimes wear quite - ahem - eccentric - outfits, but not their nightware.

In an emergency and if it's very late at night, or early in the morning, I'd nip in in sweat pants and a T-Shirt maybe. But I'd certainly wear shoes! And mascara...

There's this commercial over here about online schooling and it has the actress saying how she can go to school in her pajamas!

I always laugh because a lot of people went to my college in their pajamas especially on Friday mornings because Thursday night is Student Night at the clubs.

Yep, you don't see it so much at the nice stores and malls, but definitely college and Walmart.

Actually, my mom works at Walmart and she over heard this family once. The child did something and the parent complained, "You're in PUBLIC!"

So, the child retorts, "This isn't public, it's Walmart."

That about sums up the mentality.

No, I have never thought of doing my shopping (grocery or otherwise) in pjs and barefoot. It doesn't appeal to me even if I can do all my shopping literally downstairs.
;D

The least dressed I ever went out shopping was directly after an ER visit and I went to the grocery store for a prescription. Jeans, houseshoes, nightshirt, and houserobe. I got funny looks, but no one asked me to leave, and I was too sick to care about looks.
