G.A.W., Day 1: Maureen O'Hara

Feb 20, 2012 18:50

Welcome to G.A.W. (Ginger Appreciation Week)!

As I ran out of cat pictures, there's nothing on the telly of interest and politics-related discussions aren't good for my blood pressure, I decided to distribute a DDoG to you this week (Daily Dose of Ginger, which is far more entertaining than a DDoS). I'll try to keep a fair balance between ladies, gents and muppets. Suggestions are welcome, by the way.

We'll start with a girl from Dublin who made it big in Hollywood - Maureen O'Hara!

To me, she's one of the most stunning women of Old Hollywood. She made some iconic movies (Rio Grande to name just one), but I remember and love her best for her roles in the pirate movies "The Black Swan" with Tyrone Power (*woof*) and "Against All Flags" with Errol Flynn and Anthony Quinn.

Ships! Cannons! And a girl with a pistol fighting with a sword! Whoot! Swash, swash, buckle, buckle!

Little Me was very impressed by "Spitfire" Stevens! And while some scenes make Adult Me cringe (there is not enough head->desk in the world for "Patma, daughter of the Moghul Emperor" in Against All Flags"..), I still love that movie.
If only Tyrone Power had featured rather than Errol Flynn...
