I think Theon's arc was my favorite in the whole book. I was looking forward to his chaps cause I wanted to see exactly what they were doing to him at the Dreadfort. Morbid fascination, I guess. As I read, I was reminded strongly of Darsanga & Ramsay can be the Mahrkagir. I was never much of a Theon fan before, but I really felt for him here. How could you not?

(Also, after this book I ship Melisandre/Jon. Anyone else? No? Okay, just me.)

Lol I've been shipping it since before the book came out & I was pleased that there's UST between them. I used to really dislike Mel, but she's kinda grown on me a little.

I too am really pissed about Quentyn's death. I fangirl the Martells as much as I fangirl the L'Envers in Kushiel fandom so I kinda had a lot of hopes riding on him. I was hoping he was gonna marry Dany & be a dragonrider. I thought he was gonna be important, but now I seriously do not understand why he was a full POV.

Therefore either he's alive or something happened during his chapters that only he could have seenThat's ( ... )

The Mahrkagir at least had a reason for being evil (admittedly it was bringing ten thousand years of darkness upon the world so he could rule it, but you know, it was evil sadism with a purpose!), whereas Ramsay is just...well, as you can tell I despise him, because there's no point to it. He tortures people just to fuck with them, not to gain anything or because of some twisted reasoning other than "because I can". Yeah, he sucks.

:D Is Mel/Jon a popular pairing? I haven't delved into the non-tumblr parts of the fandom except for the main forum, which was terrifying, so I have no idea where the fic is except the AO3.

I suppose he could be a fake Quentyn or maybe he'll get resurrected & turned into a R'hllor zombie

By the end of the series everyone's going to be a R'hllor zombie except for Melisandre, at the rate characters die!

Yeah. At least w/ the Mahrkagir we know about that horrific massacre he survived, so we can actually feel some pity for him. Ramsay is just a sick fuck who does it all for the evulz.

Oh, there are definitely people who ship Jon/Mel. You can find art of it on deviantArt.

I don't have a very high opinion of the westeros.org boards. I'd recommend staying away from them, though I myself have been reading some of their ADwD discussion threads lately. Lj fandom is pretty cool, though. I'm a mod at westerosorting, an asoiaf great houses sorting community that was actually the inspiration for kushielsorting! We have a fanworks community with lots of fic. It's locked, though. All the fic in the fandom is pretty underground because GRRM doesn't like it. Also, many of the people on the westeros.org boards are virulently anti-fic as a result.

Yeah, the boards were the first place I looked, and - no. Just no. Misogynistic as fuck, though I admit their speculation threads are fun to browse through.

Funnily enough, I just had westerosorting recced to me by a friend, and joined it a few days ago! It takes me ages to fill out applications like that, though, but I'll probably steal some answers from my kushielsorting app, lol. Let me guess, you're Martell, right? :D

Dany isn't really innocent by this book, exactly, but she still is kind of naïve and she still is ridiculously caring and protective over the weak and disadvantaged. She's like Catelyn, except her children are EVERYONE. I really hope Dany/Jorah could be the endgame, but sadly I doubt it would happen. (Still, that's what fandom's for!) Gotta say that half the reason I picked up the first book was their interactions in the show, because good lord do they have chemistry! And I wanted moar. And got it, too, at least for a while. Jorah, you fool.
