I figured it was getting Force-choked while pregnant that damaged her life force somehow, actually.

But then, I have an appalling (just ask the Sugar Quillers) tendency to look at what someone actually wrote or put on a screen and interpret what is going on using logic, rather than going by what the author tells me to think.

Well, the medical droid said she was perfectly healthy, but had "lost the will to live."

Nothing physical wrong with her that a medical droid could detect. :D

I know what the authorial intent is, okay?

That's just not what my reaction to the scene was. Watching the movie, I saw very little free choice on Anakin's part (I mean, how did Palpatine know what Anakin was dreaming about if he wasn't using his evil Sith voodoo powers to send him the dreams?) and a whole lot of other stuff.

I don't think this means I'm stupid; I think it means that George Lucas, as a writer, fails to convey his points, to the point where unless you've been told what they are... *shrug*

She had more to do in the original script. This guy pulled out a lot of the deleted scenes:

Oh, as for age difference, I remember them being 9 and 14 in Phantom Menance. So it's not that big a gap, especially with him radiating midiclorians.

She was a senator at 14? No wonder the Republic is a mess.

She was elected Queen then, which gave her the power to appoint Senators. She picked Palpatine. Yep, that's a mess.

Wait, if she made Palpatine Senator, then how did she end up being Senator in the 2nd one? Isn't he still in the Senate then?

(yes, I don't pay a whole lot of attention to this, but then I haven't seen 3 or even all of 2)

That actually does pretty well encapsulate my ex's shift in attitudes/preferences/perceptions under similar circumstances.

Before getting knocked up: Tae kwon do brown belt, deadeye archer, aggressive type-A alpha female with a thrill-ride obsession.

After getting knocked up: Afraid of kiddie rides that too strongly resembled roller coasters, vastly increased "girliness", and alpha attributes largely restricted to expressions of annoyance that I didn't pick up/wield the reins of power to her satisfaction.

It was...disturbing.

Pregnancy hormones actually DO have wierd and unpredictable effects on personality.

Great, another strike against Ubermom.

Oh dear. I think that's possible, but unlikely. I don't *think* I did anything like that. I've gotten a bit more cautious having kids, but I think that's parenthood, not pregnancy hormones.

I should think it's the opposite--pregnancy hormones would make you less cautious about having kids, right?
