So, don't tell him, but I've been cheating on Ira Glass. You see, my weekly this American Life fix doesn't even last me through Monday (45 miles, 75 minutes, plus parking time) and I've listened to the back episodes I've downloaded. So I've been trying out other stuff. There's Speaking of Faith, though it's often very chewy and I have to be in ( Read more... )

Lynn Rosetto Casper's "Splendid Table."

"Radio Lab." Cannot recommend this enough. The long ones are especially good.

"Heart and Soul: Faith Perspectives" - it's a BBC version of "Speaking of Faith," with no twee-ness.

"Wait Wait Don't Tell Me: The NPR Quiz Show"

Oh, yea, I've heard of Radio Lab! They did part of a recent TAL, and Ira was like "If you're not listening to RL, go do it right now." I'll check them, and everyone else, out.

I second Radio Lab. I just got into it, and it's SO GOOD. I also recommend Stuff You Should Know. It's basically these two dudes in their 30s who explain completely random stuff in a straightforward, accessible way. Non-political, not overly thinky or overly dumbed down, and they're VERY funny. Topics range from the Amish to Muppets to parasites to drug trafficking, all explained in neutral, sort of Wikipedia-esque ways for about 20 minutes a pop.

Another vote for Splendid Table and I'm really fond of On The Media. And yes on Wait... Wait.... and PRI's Bob Edwards' Weekend.

I like Splendid Table so so much.

I also have been listening to a lot of All Songs Considered lately.

I agree with Wait... Wait... Just make sure you can laugh and drive at the same time. I also like Stuff You Should Know although I only ever listen to it by chance.

I did a podcast roundup post here not too long ago. Since then, I've dropped the Personal Finance Hour podcast and added Speaking of Faith and Wait, Wait.
