Anything for Love Chapter 2
“I take it things are going well with Miss Sullivan?”
George ignored his partner Barry who chuckled as they sat down. “So, I guess it’s going to be
smooth sailing from now on?”
“I hope so.” George replied as he looked through the files of their latest case. “It’s been really great.”
At Barry’s grin, George picked up his pen and threw it as his face. “Mind out of the gutter, pal.”
“Me?” Barry asked innocently. “I never said anything, maybe it’s you who needs to get holy
freaking crap, it’s your mother!”
Barry quickly stood up and straightened his tie. Elena Kaufmann walked towards them, her white hair
perfectly coifed in an elegant bun. George closed his eyes before he stood up to greet his mother.
“George, darling.” Elena greeted as she kissed her son on both cheeks. “You haven’t returned my calls.”
“I’ve been busy, how was France?”
“Glorious, you should’ve taken my offer to come with us. Your sister misses you so much.”
Barry cleared his throat. “It’s great to see you, Mrs. Kaufmann, I’ll leave you and your son
alone while I get some files downstairs.”
George turned around and narrowed his eyes at Barry who shrugged.
“Thank you, Detective Dune. It’s a pleasure to see you again.”
Barry just nodded and whistled as he walked away and left his partner to deal with his mother.
Elena gave her son an appraising look as she adjusted his tie. “I know you’ve been busy. I’ve been hearing
a lot of this Chloe Sullivan.”
George tried to stop himself from rolling his eyes as he grabbed his mother’s hands. He should have known his
luck was going to run out soon enough. “I beg your pardon?”
“You heard me, darling. What’s will all the fuss with this woman? Honestly George, a divorcee and a widow?
Not to mention her affair with the President...”
“Mom, please. Just stop.” George whispered as he ushered his mother to the kitchen. “First of all, there was no affair.”
“Fine, let’s just leave that to media speculation, shall we? I doubt even you can deny the fact she ran away with a
serial killer who ended up killing her ex-husband. Out of all the women in Metropolis, couldn’t you have picked someone more,
appropriate?”
“You mean like Margareth Pascal?” George asked dryly as he prepared a coffee for his mother.
“What’s wrong with Margareth? She’s absolutely beautiful. She’s well educated, smart; she’s everything you value in a woman.”
George handed the coffee to his mother as they both sat down. “I’m sure she’s brilliant, mom.”
Elena thanked her son for the coffee before she took a sip. “I just think you deserve better.”
“Mom, come on.”
“Don’t roll your eyes at me, George. First you completely go out of your way to ‘do your own thing’ as you so aptly
described it, joined a law enforcement agency which always leaves me going to bed wondering if I was going to see my son
in the morning, you do all this charity things, studying law so you can help the poor... when are you going to start living your life?”
“I am living my life, mom. This is what I want.”
Elena grabbed her son’s hand and smiled. “I only want what’s best for you,”
“I know.” George replied. “But you don’t have to worry. I’m fine, and Chloe is a remarkable woman.”
“I’m sure your trust fund would be enough to keep her interested.”
George gently took his hands away from his mother. “That’s not the kind of woman she is.”
“Is that so?” Elena asked as she adjusted her silk scarf.
“Mom, seriously. Is that why you’re here?”
“I’m just worried about you.”
“Don’t be,” George said firmly. “Stop thinking about her like that, she’s a very wonderful woman. You need to give
her a chance instead of judging her.”
“You’re right.”
“I am?” George asked as he looked at her suspiciously. “What are you planning?”
“I’m not planning anything, I just think what you said makes sense. I shouldn’t judge her since
I haven’t met her.”
At that moment, George knew that his luck had definitely run out.
“I want to meet her.”

Oliver buttoned up his top as he sat on the examination table while Emil looked over his results.
“It looks like there’s nothing to worry about. You’re healthier and stronger, there doesn’t look like any side
effects that could damage your health.”
“That’s good news then?”
“It is,” Emil replied. “I looked over all the results from the hikers that were kidnapped, and they’re results are
just like yours. Physically, they’re fine.”
Oliver nodded his head. John Jones paid a visit to all the hikers and accessed their memory to see if there was something
that could trigger a reaction like Oliver experienced before, but there was none.
“So, anything I need to do?”
“Keep yourself out of trouble.” Emil replied dryly and was answered by a smirk from Oliver.
“I’ll see you and the rest of the team next week, no excuses.”
“Yes, doc.”

“Tell me you’ve kissed already!”
Chloe turned bright red as she kicked Lois under the table. The other coffee patrons didn’t seem to care, but it didn’t mean
she wanted her cousin to announce her relationship status to the world.
“I’m not telling you anything!” Chloe hissed as she glared at Lois who just grinned.
“You totally have!” Lois practically gushed as she looked at Chloe in triumph. She knew the detective was just
what her cousin needs. “Is he any good? God, he’d better be, it would be such a shame for a mouth like that to go to waste!”
“LOIS!”
Clark had finally recovered from his shock as he watched his girlfriend smile. As much as he wanted Lois to be happy, it
was never a good sign to see her that happy.
“We should double date!”
Chloe and Clark looked at each other before they stared at Lois.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Clark said as looked at Lois. “You’ll just have George running the other direction.”
Lois rolled her eyes at Clark before she turned her attention towards Chloe. “I promise to be good, Chloe.”
Chloe just looked at her cousin disbelievingly as Lois made a crossing motion over her heart.
“I’m not sure...”
“Chloe, come on!”
It was so hard to say ‘no’ to Lois once she had that look on her face. Chloe relented with a sigh and the smile on
her cousin’s face just got bigger.
“Out of my way, Clark. We’re going shopping!” Lois said as she practically stepped over Clark and grabbed Chloe’s hands.
“Excuse me? I was having lunch with my best friend when you showed up.”
“Well, she’s my cousin, so I get first dibs. See you later!” Lois said before she tossed her brown hair over
her shoulder. “Don’t worry; I’ll make it up to you later!”
Chloe just threw an apologetic look to Clark as Lois dragged her outside the coffee house.
“Sir, would you like to pay for the bill now?”
Clark looked in surprise as the waitress approached him with a small black folder. With a sigh of defeat, Clark
took his wallet out to pay for their meal.
