I made a dress that I just wore twice in one weekend--once to the rehearsal dinner of a wedding I was in, and once to the Ren Faire. (And this wedding was definitely *not* sous la signe de la fantasy.) It was inspired by this pattern, view C (the ghost girl with the giant hoop earrings) but longer so as to be a dress. Made of silk and Groveishly dyed purple. I think this style makes a good fairy/mundane crossover. It's also a fairly popular style this summer, so it shouldn't be hard to find something like it, maybe even on clearance since it's the "end of the season"

So my overall advice is find some base garment that can seem innocuous but can also be dressed up. Then add easily ditchable fantastic pieces like jewelry, headpiece, wings, maybe even stockings. And carry a big purse so if you feel out of place, you can take off as much of the fantasy stuff as you need to and hide it in your purse.

Oh I do hope you'll dress up, as I'd hate to be the only one ( ... )

Lovely dress plans!

Is John wearing a costume? Or contemplating doing so? Or is this a silly question? (He's coming dressed as a photographer or something?)

Yes, let's talk about travel arrangements!

Y'know, I know someone who for Halloween designed a Warcraft sylph costume that involved some leafy vines and a miniature deer statue as you might find in a garden chopped in twain and attached to the rear. Not helpful for a wedding, but really quite humorous. I wonder if there are any photos around of it.

In summary, I am currently no help at all, but would be curious about whether I know the people in question. I remember there being a good-natured dwarf priest in Coretoons who was from the France. I am struggling to remember his name at this time, but I just got up.

Yup, that's Ghimki (aka Pierre, the groom) and Youpi (Olivia) was a mage in Coretoons. Pierre's brother was Kyouwan/Gyaban the tank, as well. It's a WoW fiesta! (Or ... it's France, so maybe it's a soiree, instead.)
