Has anyone every read the play No Exit by Sartre? I was sitting in my office today listening to people bicker endlessly and I realised that my office is just like No Exit, there's constant turning against one another, constant people with really strange problems that they keep pent up and I have to sit their listening to it for hours upon hours ( Read more... )

Never heard of the play or the author, unfortunately.

This has nothing to do with anything you've said, but have you read Death of a Saleman? I dunno why, but it popped into mind while reading your entry. >_>

Not morbid.

No Exit is a play where three people who never knew eachother die and are sent to hell, but all hell is is the three of them stuck in a room for the rest of eternity. All three at first seem normal but as the play progresses you learn they're all quite horrible people. Also during the play they are constantly switching sides and doing series of two vs one. Its classic line is "Hell is other people!" as the play ends and they realize they'll be stuck together for eternity. It's pretty short and a good read.

I've never read Death of a Salesman but I saw a movie with Dustin Hoffman of it and I really loved it. The father in the film really reminded me of my own. How'd my post remind you of it?

That sounds like an interesting play... I'll have to check it out.

The book Death of a Salesman is also pretty short; if you've seen the movie first, the book is also easier to grasp, since the guy is like... totally losing it, and it's hard to keep track of who is around and who is not (unless you're paying attention). Hoffman did a good job; so your father is also insane and pushy, huh?

I don't think any particular thing in your post made me think of it, but your life seems rather chaotic and unfun right now, and so is Death of a Salesman. Maybe that's why.

Now that you mention it... And when I think about what you have said about your office. It all fits perfectly.
