Our parents and grandparents endured so much hardship and witnessed terrible atrocities. My father was in the Royal Navy during the war. He never really liked to speak of his experiences there, although he did tell me a little of what happened when his ship was bombed. Some of his shipmates drowned because they couldn't swim.

Thank you for reminding us about ANZAC day. It receives virtually no coverage here.

Amazing stories there John...and there must be so many of those from everyone who was affected by the war in any country. We have no idea, do we? I, for one, am very very grateful.
