Willow blurts everything out between her sobs and tears. Tara dying, trying to end the world, killing Warren and then tales of Caleb and The First. Hours go by and day turns into night as I listen intently to everything Willow has to get out of her system.
“Things must have been hard Willow.” I find myself saying after she’s finished. I don’t know what else I can say. It’s a lot of information to take in but I realise now why Willow never contacted me before even though she admitted she’d kept track of me after I left Sunnydale. I idly wonder if Tara knew and find myself hurting that I’ve now lost the chance to get to know her better.
“I forgot how understated you could be.” Willow answered me with a slight smile on her face, the tears now finally drying. “Hard would have been a great improvement on the last year.”
“Sorry.” I tell her. “Sorry that I couldn’t be here. Sorry that I couldn’t stay.”
“You had your own issues to deal with Oz. I couldn’t ask you to come back before now anymore than I could have made you stay that night three years ago.”
It’s my turn to smile now, the truth in her words making me feel more relaxed. “So this Caleb guy and The First, is it going to be hard, or harder than hard?”
Willow sighed before answering. “If it wasn’t going to be harder than the last year has been I wouldn’t have asked you to come.”
